Hello LC,

When I got my van, I had to purchase one it can be used and Georgia Dept. of Vocation Rehabilitation paid for the modifications. (It does not have to be a new van but has to be low mileage.) I had allocated to me $22,000 for the modifications that were recommended. I am sure Arkansas has some similar program.

Good luck.

Many car companies will give you an amount, usually $500-$1,200, towards the modifications when you purchase a new car from them. I've used this plan with GM and Toyota cars. Chrylser and Ford also participate. I've always had hand controls installed on my new car and they usually run about $1,000...the same amount GM and Toyota would pay.

BTW, on my first van the MD Vocational Rehab people did pay for a lift. But since I've been employed for 30 years and haven't been to them since I got employed I'm not sure if I would still qualify for thier assistance.

On the left if you click on the "programs and services by county" you might be able to find a vocational rehab facility near you that may be able to help you.
