Living With Ostomy

I might have to have complete removal of my colon and rectum and have to live with ostomy due to sever ulcerative colitis. Im wondering if anyone in this community, men especially live with an ostomy? Did surgery effect you sexually? concerned about impotency. Also is it really hard living with ostomy, blockages, gas, infections, hygiene? I'm worried, meds arent really helping me anymore so surgery seems inevitable.
