Does the feeling off being cold when your body is warm or when it's warm out ever go away? Is there a way to prevent it? Sometimes when I'm in bed at night I'm comfortable till I wake up a couple hours later. Then I'm shivering uncontrollably even though my body is warm and the room is warm also. It also seems to take a long time for me to get warm from this state.

I am still cold after 6.5 years. Especially at night when I first go to bed, my feet feel extremely cold - like they had been surrounded by ice. When I feel of them with my hand, they are neutral - not cold or cool, not warm or hot.
I wrap the covers around them so the covers touch my feet. Then my feet still feel cold but they feel like they are next to something warmer.
And, summer or winter, at night, I always have to have an extra blanket over my feet. In the summer when I have the window open for a breeze, I have to have the covers tight on my bottom half, because even if covered, I feel the breeze (feels cold) on my legs and feet.

I don't remember exactly how many years it took, but I found that after a while I stopped feeling cold all of the time. Maybe it took 5 to 7 years for that to improve? I still have trouble with cold feet. In winter I wear boots all day to keep warm.
Also, I have individual heaters in some of the rooms in my house so if I'm really cold (like I've been outside on a cold winter day) I turn up the heat in that room, wrap myself in blankets, and drink something warm. It takes a while (an hour or two), but I eventually warm up again. Oh, I also microwave a bag of grain and use it like a heating pad on the parts of me that I can feel - especially around my neck.
I almost never feel too hot. (That's no surprise considering I live in Canada) Only if it's a really hot day and I spend some time outside in the sun, will I get too hot. Due to SCI I don't sweat a lot so I know if I'm too hot because I'll get a headache or an upset stomach. Then I know it's time to find some air conditioning.

It's been 21yrs now (I just realized 3/5 of my life has been as an SCI
) but unfortunately this getting cold so easy has only gotten worse as the years go by....but that's just ME.
I use heating pads off & on just about every day of the year (I wear out 1-2 a year). I have sweatshirts & jackets of all sorts of colors & various abilities to keep the elements off of me, & I have a ton of blankets that frequently go with me (or at least are left in the car so they can be quickly fetched) when I go out OUT & yup I get all sorts of jokes about looking like a burrito or an Eskimo. I tend to wear thick fuzzy socks + wool lined boots at least 6 mo out of the year. MY legs & feet feel like chicken just pulled out of the refrigerator....if my bare feet touch my B/F in the middle of the night they're so cold I've woken him up from a dead sleep quite a few times just by putting my feet or legs against him.

When first injured, I was cold all the time. I could almost be sweating and see a snow storm on TV and I would start shivering. As I have gotten older, I now stay hot all the time. My wife sleeps under a sheet and light blanket and I sleep with nothing covering me and I still sweat after about 3:00 AM. My doctor says it's something in my autonomic system. If I had a choice, I had rather be cold and put a shirt/jacket on.

It'll be 25 yrs.for me in a couple of weeks and just saying the word 'cold' is like a nasty four letter word. lol I hate being cold. I hate thinking about being cold.It makes me hurt all over...I hate being cold.
I'm not sure if I've made myself clear...I HATE feeling cold. It takes hours to warm up!!!
To answer your question, it did not get better for me. I sleep with a blanket pulled up around my face year round. My internal termostat is all messed up.

I get cold too. It is so funny that I was just having this conversation with my husband about my top half being hot but my upper half is cold and then I get on here and see that it is being discussed. I don't know why but that made me chuckle. I guess because a lot of us are dealing with heat right now and we are still cold!!!
My feet burn extremely bad when they are cold. Other times they hurt like stabbing pains. I will always tell my husband to feel my feet and see if they are cold and I have always been 100% right because of the certain burn they have (like when you play in the snow for such a long time without gloves and you come in and they start to get warm and that horrible burning that happens). Anyway, I am always asking him to turn the air off in our house (and it is 90 degrees outside with 98% humidity) because I am so cold! Then I feel bad because he and the children are about to melt. So, we leave the air on and I sit under a blanket.
Now we know why old people in nursing homes sit around with blankets on them all the time!!!

Hi everyone! It's been about 6 yrs for me. Yeah, it's really weird to be sweating bullets above the waist and cold below and your feet feel like ice cubes. For me when my feet get so cold like that I but them in (or get in and sit) in a tube with warm water. In winter I can be toasty warm under an electric blanket, all except my feet that is.
