Hi everybody,

does anyone know if you can get cancer of bladder if you have s/p catheter?

l have had mine for 20 years, I am having problems with my bladder leaking around the site, bloody dressing,l have had ultra-sound for stones, I am on bladder drugs,l have cranberry juice every day,
need for answers got appointment with doctors on 11 August

Yes, it is a risk.. Just as risky as urethral catheters for cancer, as there is a permanent "foreign object" inside the bladder which can cause irritation..

Is it only the dressing that is bloody, or is your urine bloody too? If it is only the dressing, its more likely to be something to do with the site than the bladder..

Sounds like you need a peek inside to see what's going on. Read up on cystoscopes and be informed beforehand. After 20 years being cathed you're past due having one. Cancer should always be a concern, but chronic cystitis, infection and a few other conditions are the probables.,
