KABUL, Afghanistan -- Insurgents shot down a U.S. military helicopter during fighting in eastern Afghanistan, killing 30 Americans, most of them belonging to the same elite unit as the Navy SEALs who killed al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden, as well as seven Afghan commandos, U.S. officials said Saturday. It what was the deadliest single loss for American forces in the decade-old war against the Taliban.

Yes Tex, today we lost many heroes over in Afganistan.
God bless their them, their families and all our soldiers in harms way and God bless America!
Those of us with SCI and our caregivers and family are chosen to endure

I feel very sad for the families of our fallen warriors..Perhaps we should consider getting the hell out of Afghanistan and concentrate on our troubles at home...

Snakeye,,, we see eye to eye on that one. I have an inordinate amount of respect for these young people who have VOLUNTEERED to do what is needed to protect our ,,,, and others,,, countries. But I also have the same level of DISrespect for those who send them into harms way,, for ,, ultimately,, no purpose.

I lose more respect for the man I VOTED FOR,,,, for every day he doesn't put an end to this nonsense. One would have thought that the lessons taught in Viet Nam and to the Russians in this same hole,,, would have been remembered,,,,, but instesd,, we spend more lives in a useless pursuit of an unattainable "victory".

It seems our country has forgotten the meaning of "superior firepower",,, not to mention the reson it is useful.

The heiicopter was shot down with one lucky shot from an RPG,, while flying at a low altitude. As backup for a """surgical strike""". Bulls44t. Trying to be the nice guys and kill the Taliban without hitting the women and children they were hiding behind. That's what gets OUR people killed.

You can't fight a politicly correct war. We train our soldiers to "go to strange and exotic places,, meet strange and exotic people,,,, and kill them." If you don't want to do that,,, then bring em home!!!!

Well said Ed...we are not willing to do the same things they are willing to do to us. We weren't in Viet Nam and we aren't now...gets our soldiers hurt or killed. My heart goes out to the families of those shot down. Their lives will never be the same.

Empty chairs at the dinner table, stockings that will no longer be filled with Christmas goodies, & candles on birthday cakes with out that special birthday boy/girl to blow them out = broken homes & shattered hearts. :soapbox:
