hi everyone,

my daughter wanted to look at toyota fj cruisers which are sort of like a land rover or a hummer just toyota's version. we went to craigslist and there are 3 used ones in our area. one was super cheap and was being sold by a private owner that was the one i told her we would get and could afford. she begrudgingly agreed but she let me know she didn't like the color.

so today we looked at one at the ford dealership. it had bells and whistles and leather and tv monitors and was super awesome it drove like a dream and only had 47k. i decided i'd see what kind of deal we could make the salesman told me the car had been on the lot a while and they were motivated to move it.

i brought the ad for the cheaper car with me and showed it to the salesman. when he first showed me what the truck would cost and what they would give me on a trade in. i looked at it and told him no thanks i was going ahead and get the cheap one. he said he'd talk to his mgr. he came back with a good offer. it was more than the cheap car but the car we were looking at had a lot more features. so we made a deal and i was good with it.

the bad part was we had to wait 2.5 hours to see the finance guy. i was so tired and pissed and grumpy that i signed the papers quickly. i paid tax, tag, title and bought a warranty.

the salesman told me that there was a 30 day warranty on the car and that i could buy an extended warranty in that timeframe. but the finance guy told me the 30 days would only over the power train and if the ac broke as i was pulling out of the lot i was sol. so i begrudgly bought the warranty for mega bucks.

finally i get home and eat some dinner and i check out the receipt and low and behold the mfers added a $699 predelivery sevice fee and a $125 electronic reg fee. wtf i can't believe i didn't catch that until after the fact. i am so mad at myself for not checking for add ons. i probably had a dozen things to sign and i just signed away not even checking. i thought i was such a good negiotator and i now see i'm not.

still all in all i got her a good car and it has a warranty. i made rachel lee's day.

hi fellow gimps! i'm a c 6/7 quad and have been injured since 1986. i was in a roll over hydroplane accident and it took hours for the paramedics to get me out of the car in the pouring rain. that definately wasn't my day. but alas life goes on!

They always charge that "delivery fee," although I can't for the life of me understand why. I truly think they arbitrarily make things up just to add on more expenses.

Anyhoo, nice car!

My first one was a 1972 Dodge Duster, bought in 1988 for $750. Ahhh, good times . . .

At first I saw a tall headless guy in a grey shirt. Then I remembered it was right hand drive and saw a one eyed mummy.
Which is kind of funny 'cause it sounds like you have a one eyed daughter.
Out of the gloom a voice said unto me, "Smile and be happy, things could be worse." So I smiled and was happy and behold things did get worse.

Our brains are programmed to respond to anything that looks like a human face. If you try hard enough you can see faces almost anywhere, clouds, waves, the shapes between trees etc, and foliage (as in this case). I suspect that this is the root of most "ghost" stories. Woooooooooh !!!!!

Congrats on the vehicle, the milestone and sorry about the ghost face.

I always like the idea of a larger vehicle for young drivers especially for the safety factor. It's a nice choice!

I'm not sure I understand the "predelivery fee" on a USED car. But either way,,, an extra $800.00 or so,, over the life of the car,, doesn't add up to much,,, considering the nearly four buck a gallon gas you have to put in it.

It looks like a great car,,, I'm sure she'll be happy in it.

I wanted one of those in a bad way four years ago. The rear door opens to the rear giving a lot of width to the rear opening. Just not quite enough to load a power chair in. Had to go with a Sienna van. Now I'm jealous. Be sure you get some time in it too........

[greybeard...i never knew about this face thing..makes great sense though, i lurve your info on stuff, solves loads of me life mysteries  i always wondered why that happens..even cars faces.

mellow..maybe if you pretended your address was your parents..and the car was a gift from a small bit of compenation you got from an accident, you wouldnt be quite so vulnerable to getting ripped off.

its the way of the world for some people..you got it..they want a piece of it. Some will see you coming, if your bored one day...maybe try this, you may find it fun to see if it happens to poor-er people too..it usually does..just in the way of high-inflated loans :( greedy quick-buck makers have no conscience.

I assume you cant work, so its your husbands hard eaned cash that was spent? not fair on him hey..all for a cheap sales dude to spend on cheap women and cheap drinks all weekend .for all we know :(

Nice present for your young lady daughter, We cant take it with us when we go....and a lovely start for her in her young life, Nice to see hapopy stories (well most part of your story is happy anyway).

Ever wondered why these dinky little cars aimed at women buyers have such friendly little faces on the front? It's no accident. The manufacturers design them that way cos they sell better than ugly ones!!
