Hi there everyone!

I was first directed here by a friend of mine who is also a member, and have been lurking for a while, but have decided to step out from the shadows :)

I don't have an SCI in the usual sense (if indeed there is one!), but instead have SB in the lumbar region as well as a condition called diastematomyelia, which basically means my spinal cord is split into two separate hemicords by a bony spur, which also tethers the cord. I also have some pretty strange vertebral anomalies and kyphoscoliosis deformity. I don't have full paraplegia but have various parts that don't work so well, the most annoying of all being the bladder and bowel! I am currently waiting on some more spinal surgery as i'm in a lot of pain and have been for years, so am on a ton of painkillers.
Oh, and i'm 29 and from Norwich, UK.

If your cord is "tethered" then doesn't that meant that your spinal cord IS BEING/HAS BEEN damaged? There are others here who didn't have an accident causing their issues but instead like you just the body doing it to itself in one way or another. And there are quite a few of us who are in that gray zone....not quite 100% paralyzed but a far cry from "normal". Have a look in the "Incomplete" section....there are a whole lot of us who can "walk" with varying abilities & reliance on support devices like braces or forearm crutches.

Welcome. I don't think there is any "normal" SCI. You sound like you'll fit right in with the rest of us.

Wheeliebear, thanks for the welcome! Yeah, I guess tethered cord etc is damage all the same. I did used to walk with the aid of leg brace/crutches but now i'm having to use a wheelchair full time - how long for remains to be seen. I will take a look in the sub forum you mentioned though - there's so much on here it's hard to know where to start! I've mostly been lurking in the bladder/bowel section as i'm having particular issues in this department at the moment, but will branch out once I get used to knowing where things are :)

Welcome, we are not strong on being judgmental here (well most of the time anyway!!), you sound in more than enough suffering to be welcome and embraced by the rest of us dysfunctional characters.
