Former rugby player Matt Hampson: 'Paralysis made me a better man'

Six years ago, aspiring England rugby player Matt Hampson was at the top of his game, training for an under-21s match against Scotland.

But his life changed forever when he was injured during a training session. He is paralysed from the neck down and needs a team of 10 carers to get him through each day.

He spoke to BBC Breakfast: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14554756

Cheers Simon, saw this was coming on this morning, but missed it in the pandemonium of getting the kids ready for their 1st day back at school!

I'm glad to hear he isn't one of those trying to get his carers to take him on a one way flight to a certain country that will....you know..... :suicide:

thanks simon

loving his attitude :) and gonna be trying to get the audiobook version if hes got one, i hope so, readings hard these days...i reckon an audio version would be a great help in spinal injury units when laying bed bound......

hey jules why not wear a t-shirt saying that on ya charity actions? Your a good example of eye totty (as well as clever mind) and will get noticed  .

Sure would have helped me feel better in them days of doom, tripping off head on nasty meds and only coronation street to remind me of normaity of lfe as i knew it......

Hambo and another friend of mine who is an incomplete quad are designing a running vest for me with Hambo's logo on and website etc on the back. The half marathon is only in 3 weeks so need to get my butt in gear now, had a bit of bad news today health wise but its not going to stop me doing it :-)

Pink you are full of good ideas today I will ask Hambo if they have thought of that.(Thanks for the complements too)

A school mate of mine was in the spinal unit at the same time as Matt.
We were both invited to a charity rugby game between Leicester Tigers & England u21's. First time I'd ever been to watch Rugby & we got to watch from the directors box with private bar & food. Great night.
Gave me a reminder of how all spinal injuries are unique too.
Both broke our necks but our recovery couldn't be more different.
Suprising how many have been severely injured when 'scrums' collapse!

All the best
