A stab in the dark
I didnt like Gabapentin as i stabbed me eye with a mascara wand. Thinking back, was likley the huge doses of morphine i was on and Tramadol, whow i watched aggitated ladies of me elder just flake out before me eyes..... anyway now i been a converted 'i hurt so feck it, i got me a med drug cocktail cabinet i'll buy now,pay later - with me liver.
Anyways just after the operation before i went cold turkey from the nasties (very not recommended actually) i felt really warm inside..and i felt like i was really young - body age/nerve pain wise - when spinal shock took in i had to have fans on full blast (nasty nurses say i had early menopause)......
Due to having felt so cold all the time before surgery....i wonder will this work again..seeing as its nerves that control me ever changing body tempreture....
excues me niave ways on this..lyrica never did nothing nor does amitriptylin/duloxetine ....worth a shot ya think?

Hey Pink
As most of you know , I'm not a big pill popper. However, my new doc. wanted me to try Gabapentin at bed time. I'm only on the lowest dose but it does help me sleep. I call it my knock out pill. Before I was a very light sleeper , now, I sleep like a rock. I haven't had any side effects from it nor does it make me feel loopy the next day.
I really don't think it helped my nerve pain but I only take 100 mg....lowest dose..once a day.
While I was in rehab, my thermostat was stuck on HOT. I was the only one. I remember sitting in the snow and finally feeling normal temperture wise.
That didn't last long. Now, I hate cold weather and being cold and even the thought of being cold. I find it much easier to cool off rather than heat up.
I haven't had any hot flashes so I'm clueless on that one.

Can't necessarily comment on the cold bit, however I was suffering with bad pain before Christmas where it felt as if my left thigh was being blowtorched. I started on Gabapentin and increased up to 1,800mg before it covered the pain. Recently I have been suffering more than usual with swelling in my legs and noted that this was a side effect of Gapentin. As i've had other neoropathic changes over 9 months I wondered if I really still needed it? I dropped to 1,200mg last week and 600mg this week with no resurgence of the pain. This is great but so is the fact that the fluid in my legs is probably reduced by 50% or more!
I still feel drowsy at the drop of a hat during the day but think that's the Baclofen or Dantrolene.
Tempetatire control is also a problem for me but can't say I've noticed any difference in that at all.
EC

Impossible only describes a problem that needs viewed from a different perspective

hi pink
for me gabapenten is a wonder drug for me!! Before i was taking it (2 years ago) i had really severe nerve pain to the point i couldn't move for the pain. the doc started me on an increasing dose and after about a week i started feeling a lot better. It doesn't make me drowsy or screw up any other bits that are not screwed up. I feel this is because i took it very slowly regarding increases and now i'm on 600mg three times a day and its great. it is one of the older drugs for treating nerve pain and it can also be used to treat epilepsy so you have to make the doc aware why you are taking it. it is like marmite you either love it or hate it!! i love it and is one of my staples in tackling pain. try it and see pink but be aware it takes up to a week before you see a result. esslouis

thanks all so much
goose, the ony pill that knocks me out is clorazepem..2mg lol. I have to take it half a tab 2 times a day some time..to calm them spazs. i hate being sleepy so I think I give gabapentin a miss..I already hate felelin when i'm on 1/2 clorazpam..what drug takers seek when taking downers (i never will know why people chase this...i'm glad i lucky i dont know too). Sounds like that warm feeling was just a temporary feeling then..ahhh man to feel warm in the wind and rain and snow..beautiful...
EC..ouch, i happy that swollen leg issue getting solved, i lucky i do get that warm feeling..on me warm days..but not like in hospital..now its more of a stuffy overheated hot than nice summer day by the sea hot..and freezing cold is like being in the arctic...you know the one I sure.
Esslouis..I'm gonna stick with me curent drugs am-i-tripping-lyn and duloxetine.... they good on the nerve pain front..i happy they work for you though hun..just watch out with that mascara wand
i just keep me happy memories of being warm like goose does..its kept happy in her mind bank for all these years...at least we had it once

I'm on Gabapentin now. Yes earth muffin fairy dancing Lav does take a prescription or two. I started at 300mg at bedtime. When my doctor saw me last he upped it to 1800mg. I can't take that much. My doctors have both told me to fiddle with the dosage until it works. They've given me an upper limit to not exceed in one dosage. 600 mg takes the nerve pain away, but it also does something and I end up losing some muscle control. It's hard enough trying to figure out walking and holding things without medication taking that bit of control. I'm not a masochist, I'd just rather maintain what I have even if it means pain. I digress.
I tried Lyrica- no dice
I use Gaba at night it does take away the acid bath pain for the most part.
