About three and half years ago I got my first chair and as soon as I got it I noticed a few things weren't what I ordered. The chair had a V front end instead of the tapered front I requested and the chair was an inch wider than requested, the front end angle is also at 80 degrees instead of 90 degrees which has meant me shoving my legs under the chair for all this time. We also had difficulty getting some other parts that we had ordered including the back that came from the same company. The chair is an invacare A4 titanium and while it has gotten me through some rough terrain and been used very well the misfit of it started giving me problems about a year ago. We finally got around to going to see the DME about a new chair today and when they looked up the number we found out it was a demo chair. While it explains a lot, it does not explain why we (and the insurance company) were billed for a brand new custom chair, and even paid the difference out of pocket.

Has anyone had any experience with invacare demo chairs as far as pricing goes or what we should do now?

Hello IM,

I would talk to the DME about some free repairs. If he doesn't find that agreeable, contact your insurance company and show them the proof. As your agent, they work for you and should contact the DME for further discussion. Be calm and not demanding.

Good luck.

One more bit of evidence that if a chair is not right, do not accept it.
Look! It's a snail! It's a sloth! Able to creep short distances before lunch!
