Hello. I'm a T-12 17 year old and my parents recently got me a 2010 Altima, but we don't know where we can go to get it modified for me to drive. Do you know any installation locations in southern california that also sells the hand controls and what do you recommend? Thanks in advance!

When I started driving again, I went to an Adaptive Driving expert who tested my ability to drive and assessed what controls would work best. In the end, I was able to drive with foot pedals. An adaptive driving consultant can help you get the right equipment and can also recommend places for equipment installation. These folks also offer training on the controls. Do some internet searches for adaptive driving in your area. If I could find someone in Wisconsin, you sure will have many more choices in CA! Good luck!

Congratulations on the new car! Just took a look myself for adaptive equipment in southern California and came up with Mobility Works in Pasadena. There are probably several places for you to choose from. Gotta believe there are some people from your area that can help point you in the right direction.
Boat racing accident July 2006. Still hoping for some return!

I'm on the west coast, but where I live, you have to get an assessment before any place will put hand controls in your vehicle. They assess what type of controls will work best, how well you can drive with them, etc. Try Google :)

I'm a fan of HC with gas holder. As I know the only one available in the states is MENOX.
When you have gas holder you can drive with BOTH hands and you don't need steering knob.
Also some drivers who don't have holder have complained of fatigue and pain in right arm.
More about it you can find in Menox Hand Controls-manualon page 8.
Google "MENOX" in you area to find a dealer.

My advice would be to go to your state vocational rehabilitation services. They will send you for training and then recommend and pay for the hand controls and have them installed. In Georgia, for insurance, you have to take another driving test to get your license.

Good luck.

There's a company in Detroit Michigan called Viegel Hand controls. I'm really impressed by there design. I'm looking into putting a set of these in my muscle car.

Here's there website.
