I'm thinking about getting one of the new Ford Fiesta's. It's easy enough to get in, but getting a wheelchair in by myself seems a bit tricky. Has anyone had any success with these cars? What other cars have you guys had luck with?

Hi mate... I had a ford fiesta before my injury and I have to say for a smallish car they have great build quality mine never skipped a beat but now after my accident I've got a BMW 325 convertible! I honestly think convertibles are great for getting the chair in cuz if u got the strength it's a clear lift over your head!! Also herd of others opting for cars with the suicide rear doors like Mazda rx8 and I think as your American a "Saturn" or something has them too?? Hope that helps good luck

Im still trying to figure out what car I will be putting handcontrols in since I am newley injured. But really you just have to find your own way to get the chair in. Ive seen many people do things many different ways. I like the Saturn Ion quad coupes and MAzda RX8's becuase the door behind the driver door is a suicide door which allows you just to pull the chair in without having to break it down (: I am also looking at getting a truck in the near future. Just find something you like and practice!

Hi
i have the new shape ford fiesta, its 2 yrs old now, but i think it is the one you are enquiring about
i have the 3 door version, and the front doors open very wide to accommodate getting in and out, and my wheelchair sits nicely in the passenger seat. the only downside is the seats, they are the bucket seats (not sure what you call them over the pond) and they can be a bit tricky to get your bum over. I did ask to have the normal seats but it was not optional when i got the car.
It is pretty economical and quite a smallish car, although not as small as the older fiesta versions, also easy to park
hope this is of some help

Thanks for the responses. I'm going to have to check out the mazda rx8 now. I wasnt aware of the suicide door. Are there any tall folks that have one of these? It looks like a pretty small car, I'm wondering if it has reasonable leg room (I'm 6'3")
