hi, this sounds like positive news if theres only bruising, then again..i sure aint no doctor so wouldnt like to say for sure.
However, your mam still has had a nasty accident and although some will say how lucky she is not to have full spinal cord injury, shes ya mam and any pain is too much for our loved ones to have.
Does you mum have lots of pain (may sound silly yet some people dont have pain)
Sometimes very bad pain can be just as difficult to work thorough, because although it feels like the legs will never work again....they will. With the right medications (these only need to be temporary), this will help her a lot to make sure she can get as much mobility/movement as possible.
Her body needs time to heal so progress may be slow. Think of bodybuilders, it takes a lot of time to build up muscles. With determination to want them legs to move again, her mind will need to be in the right place. As long as the doctors have given her the all clear to do so....best to right away say to herself
'this hurts and thats ok, it means them muscles are having a good workout and soon they will be stronger...just like when we first start swimming and we do 2 lengths...then 4, 8 etc....
And its definatly ok to think ohhh i cant do this no more/i'm so tired of this...even the most dedicated sports people feel this...at this time i used to just have a short break away....not too long though..because just like any exercise...too long away from it..and we have to go back a few steps to regain that level again.
and the most important thing...it wont be the same pleasure of walking in these early times as it was when she had no injury....so i found it essential when i do exert meself its to music, to look around to all me surroundings, i used housework as me physiotherapy lol...nothing like a dusty shelf to push us on lol.
feel free to message me, working at walking is worth it...i had a real bad episode where i was down on it as i got worse..but....i am the exception not the rule. i like getting up to go to the toilet/make a drink etc so i keep pushng on.
best wshes to you both.

Helpful advice here from biggdoggpa
all i will add to this is this is ya mam,
please dont ever feel that its your responsibility to push her..because if you feel it is and her progress is not as best as she likes, you may develop a big burden of guilt. And this really is not the case at all. Just you being there when your able to...is enough speaking as a mam meself. Support is excellent but its hard to see our mam hurt and its ok to feel overprotective if you feel she will hurt again...yet its invitable recovery will hurt and as biggdoggpa says, its important we dont wrap our loved ones up in cotton wool (even though i say this, i have trouble not to do this with others sometimes lol) It does hurt, it is hard and remember its ok to feel that its hard for you too. And if so, speak with ya mam about it..because to carry on being ourself is more important than any physical difficulties. Being a mam is all i needed to push me thorough, its a good incentive for her too :-)
