I know this isn't a global issue, but the northeast of the US in being dumped on with rain. I know the southeast just got hit with Irene and there's a LOT of damage on the east coast. I just hope everyone is OK and on high ground. For those who've already seen the storm, I hope and pray you're recovering.

3 doctors diagnosed me with hysterical paralysis (weee!), 1 diagnosed an incomplete T7, another T2 and the last (and most accurate) T5. Trampolines are BAD. Sleep is unpredictable. And never kiss strangers. Life has moved on.

Wow....have you considered putting pontoons under your wheels & just pushing yourself along like the gondolas in Italy? :tease: But in all seriousness I hope it stops raining soon & that the ground soaks up the remaining water before the skeeters make THE ENTIRE CITY their breading lake.

haha, I've thought about it. My husband has a Jeep that's meant to be submerged up to 3 feet, so if we go cruising, it'll be in that!

We're all safe and dry on the hill, but I'm mainly worried about the city where our office is. We have a computer repair shop right in the flood zone and my dad called at 11AM to say he was ankle deep in the parking lot. We're expected to get another 6-8 inches of rain too, so there's going to be a lovely insurance debacle when we're able to get out and see the damage. Computers do NOT like water =\ No use in fretting about things that can't be helped.

But we're safe and dry in the meantime, and by some miracle we still have power!

Edit:

I just got wonderful news from my dad, who was able to get to our shop and snap some pictures. Looks like we'll miss it by a few inches if we don't get any more rain. My office!

Wow, that's an English summer?!?! Do you build your houses like bunkers? Us NYers are complete wimps. We build with balsa wood then cry when it rains. I'm actually really happy to live on a hill and the only thing I'm worried about is customer's electronics and equipment. The water is actually nice... just not its effect.

Nah. I'm exaggerating a little, although we have had more than our fair share of rain during recent summers and extensive flooding in some places. Summer doesn't seem to have happened at all this year, at least, not where I live! :poo:

Carpe Diem

We live outside Hershey PA and we got slammed with the rain too. The flooding took out the corner of my deck to my ramp. It's been awful!

Wow, stay safe! Even in Colorado we had major flooding this season and we live in a semi arid desert. We usually get an inch in the summer but this year it was wet and cold (in the 50s and 60s) all through June. It was also a record year for snowfall, and all that nice snow stays up in the mountains until it melts, and since it was even colder up at elevation, it didn't melt gradually either. It all just came down at once and combined with rain down near Denver overflowed all the "rivers" (they look like creeks to people from other parts of the world, but hey! They supply most of the US with water) For some reason we lucked out and the damage wasn't nearly as bad as it had the potential to be. What a weird year for weather! As a hydrologist I'm a total dork about this kind of stuff. :-p But seriously, stay dry and safe and let us know if you do something cool to adapt your chair! I'm already looking into getting/making the equivalent of snow tires for my chair for when I'm at home all winter or there's no way I can leave my dad's condo (same place I grew up).
