Can it be a gate that doesn't go in the door? I have 6 dogs, and we keep them away from the front door/guest room area, and the guinea pig/cat room. We have a gate that we actually drilled into the wall. It can be removed eventually, and there will only be two small holes, but it works really well. We actually have two different ones. One has a door in it (the gate is like, 7 ft long) so the able bodied people use that, but for me, I just pull the end that isn't attached to the wall, go through, and push it back in place. The one in the other room slides. It is attached to the wall as well, but there is a hook that you have to use your thumb and index finger to open, then you can slide it into itself.
There are some that basically "fold" into itself as well... there are a lot of options! Haha. I will try to find the links and post them so you can see
Edit: found them! I hope they show up!
This is the one that separates that blocks the guinea pig/cat room: http://www.walmart.c...ng-Gate/4380102
This is the one by the front door: http://www.walmart.c...rd-Gate/8456791
This is the one that "folds" into itself. They come in a smaller size too, I believe: http://www.walmart.c...n-Gate/10783394

Otherwise, is it likely your husband will need access to the room during the night? If not then maybe just go for the normal stair gate and remove it fully during waking hours. Hopefully you won't need it up for long anyway, you might actually find you don't need it at all as your daughter may stay put in her room all night!
