I recently emailed SmileyBlue as she's been missing for a while. This is the email I just got in reply.:

Sorry... I have not been too great for a while.. My insurance ran out and thus I'm out of medication and doctor treatments, and the pain is excruciating! Sometimes I can't even breathe its so sore..

I found a combination of vetericyn, cream of tartar, and D-Mannose that's been working for the infections, but I run out end of this month and won't be able to afford it anymore..

Mummy takes care of me full time now, and I've had to move back in with her, totally confined to bed..

Keep your fingers crossed that the Road Accident Fund pays me out, but my lawyer says not to count on that before at least another two years..

Pass my regards to all there, n tell them I miss them.. I'll pop in if and when I can..

Thanks for your concern..

;-)
Renée

Keep your chin up, René. We're all rooting for you. Hope you get your meds sorted quickly.

Renée, I also mailed you - to your private address - recently - did you get my message?
No prob if you're just too worn-out to answer - I just hope the address is still ok.

I'm so very sorry to read this. Do keep on fighting, girl! Especially the money side should be solved. I do hope your mum can help you there, getting what you need and have got a right to.

We're all thinking of you -- you know that. You have been mentioned and missed in the Café section more than once!

Big hugs, my friend.

Smiley,

So sorry to hear that you have even more trouble. I hope you and your mother can get your immediate needs met and the money starts coming in sooner than expected. I wish I could help, beyond just wishing you well.

Thanks Greybeard.

Renee-I'm so sorry to hear of the terrible time you're having. I really hope things improve soon. The insurance system of many other countries just seems so unfair.

You'd think we'd have enough problems to deal with in a day. Girl, I'm so sorry you are having to deal with all these extra concerns. Please keep drinking lots of water [more than your tea]. I'd hate to see the infections take over again. You're in my thoughts and prayers! Try to check in once in awhile to keep us posted .

I am so sorry to hear this. Glad that your mom is there to care for you and sending powerful thoughts of the insurance coming through and you healing quickly. I hate that the powers that be would let you suffer like this. Hugs to you.

Thanks guys n gals.. Your concern has touched me deeply..

I'm trying real hard to stay afloat mentally, but admit there's more tears than not..

I've been trying to get sponsors for the Vetericyn VF (at least) but only one "possible" so far.. Its only about $39 a bottle there, but in rands it works out TOO expensive (about 1/2 of my monthly income) as I need about 4 to 6 bottles a month plus one bottle Hydrogel VF.. Any suggestions on where or how to go about getting the sponsors would be greatly appreciated (I know quite a few of you are fund-raising experts)..

The rest of the medication comes from here and my family are all clubbing in to try and help..

The government hospitals aren't very sympathetic, and after sitting in a queue all day (6am to 4pm) all I got was a prescription for 10mg morphine to take for breakthrough pain! I may as well be sucking smarties for all the help that does! The rest of my meds like movicol, dulcolax suppositories, valium, D-mannose, etc, etc, I still have to buy myself..

Anyway, Mummy's decided its best I move in with them (since I'm confined to bed anyway) and at least we'll save some on the montly expenses (one household is cheaper than 2)..

Sorry, this has been a long sob story! Which is why I've been avoiding everyone.. Misery is contagious!

Just know that I miss you all and will be back as soon as I can dig myself outta this hole..

Lotsa love
Renée

You shouldn't "stay away" for fear of the misery.....we have all had our bouts of rough road whether it be health, finances or BOTH! That's the time where you need friends THE MOST.

I'm pretty sure I speak for everyone when I say: We're your friends & we not only love you but WANT TO be there for you! Please won't you let us have the privilege of repaying you for some of the help which you have given others? Even if all we can do is offer a virtual shoulder to cry on, it's still (IMO) better than crying on your own shoulder....easier to reach too.

Smiley, I so agree with wheeliebear. I know another member told me recently: "When I was away from the forum for a while - as things were difficult for me -, that was the time when I needed the forum most."

Dear Renée, do feel that we are here for you ... most especially in bad times. This is a support forum, not a fun forum (or not first of all ...). Come here -- vent, cry, ask for support, ask for ideas ... but COME HERE!

Perhaps somebody does have an idea about fund raising. I can only keep my fingers crossed and tell you not to give up on fighting for your right to get your medication!! It is a right, not a mere wish.

I do know things are more difficult than that ... but still ... don't give up.

I'm so sorry for all these problems.

Big hugs,
jenny xx

So sorry smiley, you are having major battles.

I also can only encourage you and your family & friends to go to the relevant authorities and continue to demand that your medication be supplied.

Medication is an essential need and therefore should not be denied anyone.

I hope you will find a solution it is unjust and inhumane what they are putting you through on top of everything else.
