Afternoon all! I'm just back from my first physio appointment with a new physio (she's lovely but just a little bit scary) who while looking through my medical records revealed I had mild scoliosis (thought so) and the scans had shown a haematoma at T12. Unfortunately we were so pushed for time (she thinks I'm really into the whole exercise thing since I've swam 22 miles this month!) I didn't get to ask her about this new found bit of waffle in my medical dictionary. So a haematoma is a bruise right? But a bruise on my spinal cord? Do they break down same as normal bruises? Can someone educate me please! I tried google and searching across the forum but I got lost.

you are correct Clara, a haematoma is a bruise. If they are very large (and fresh) and pressing on things they shouldn't be then sometimes they are surgically removed (like if they are in the brain) otherwise they are reabsorbed by the body.

Does it say there is a bruise on your spinal cord? It could be around your T12 vertebra rather than the cord. If it was on the inside of the vertebra there may not necessarily be any compression of the spinal cord so no damage.

You're so clever Trin :) It mentioned the cord but not the vertebra. Oh well. It hasn't killed me so all is well.

my cord injury was explained to me as a bruised cord. so i guess it's a common way to say damamged cord.
hi fellow gimps! i'm a c 6/7 quad and have been injured since 1986. i was in a roll over hydroplane accident and it took hours for the paramedics to get me out of the car in the pouring rain. that definately wasn't my day. but alas life goes on!

Thanks everyone. I wont be telling the boyfriend - I get told off for bruising my legs (I bruise like a peach on my legs yet you can hit my arm with a cricket bat and there wont even be a mark after a few hours - please however don't swing at me with a crick bat. It hurts.) I can't imagine the cotton wool he'd be getting out if I told him I managed to bruise my insides!

A couple of questions!

Can you feel the area? So does it hurt, feel uncomfortable?

As its a bruise. How did you do it? Knowing that means you won't do it again.

Just a few thoughts off the top of my head so you can watch for it to disapear. Or if it doesn't go work out why. Your chair? Transfering, Shower.

We do seem to .. sensibly .. pick up on the things that go on with us now.

I say that with a slightly red toe as my foot had spasmed and caught up in the duvet. It is one of those .. oh my why is my toe red. Ahhhh....... as the penny drops.
Life is just to short not to have fun!

The MRI scan was taken a while ago (can't remember when exactly) so any attempt at injuring myself has been long forgotten!
