Okay girls, are there any quads on here who can give me some tips about how they hold brushes when doing their makeup?

I used to just have my mum or care giver do my makeup, but I'd rather do it on my own, but some things are just a tad difficult!

Any tips you can give me would be amazing!

Wheelchairbarbie~

I'm a C-7 quad and I do my own makeup, including my own eyeliner. I do have help to open everything. I could probably keep everything open but I don't want my products to dry out.

The trick is how to hold the brushes. I use mineral foundation too so I use a large brush to apply the foundation. I don't know how I can explain how I intertwine the brushes through my fingers to hold them when I do each application. I put the end with the bristles towards me. I take the other end and intertwine it through my index and middle fingers. I put the brush over top of the index finger and the end under the middle finger. My thumb I leave under the brush. I hold all my brushes including my eyeliner like this to apply.

I hope I have described this well enough to help you. I commend you on wanting to do your own makeup too. It's a great feeling when you have your makeup done by your own hand. Have fun!

I'm a C4/5 and I can do my own make-up too. I have a strap/splint that just goes across the palm of my hand that has a slot for a fork, pen, tooth brush, or make-up brushes. I took it with me to a dept. store and just tried many different brushes for fit. A blush brush with a long handle works best for me. I use Bare Mineral make-up...foundation, blush and eye shadow. I use the same brush since it's all minerals but you could change. I have used a thinner handle brush just wrapped it with tape.

Now, for mascara...the trick with it is to attach the wand to a pen or something else that fits into the slot. I just tape the handle of the wand to a pen so that it gives it some extra length. You'll want to be sure whatever you tape it to fits tightly in the slot...no wiggle room.

There is some sticky putty that works good too. I'm sure you've seen it in infomercials. I use it for alot of homemade adaptive tools.

Hope this helps...practice makes perfect.

Hi, Wheelchairbarbie!

Sometimes getting a visual mass on a subject is much more informative then reading up on it, and from there you can adapt your own method. Would seeing a video be of help? Just an idea. Other than that, the previous girls gave great suggestions; couldn't have covered it better.

A video might be helpful! I mean, I can pretty much do all my makeup, but like it's harder to do the left side of my face seeing as I'm right handed.

It's not impossible, but it'd be easier if I could figure out the best way to hold my brushes securely!

Do you know who Tiffiny Carlson is? Google her and go to her blog. She's done a makeup tutorial and put it on Youtube. I think She's C6?

Absolutely. I figured you already had most of it down, I just thought it may help so you could actually see the subtle adapted techniques (like holding the brush) that I know just describing such would either become muddled or just plain overlooked. Little did I know about mentioned Carlson chick, so hey-ho, there you go! Hopefully it helps.

How much can you grip on your right? In a pinch, maybe try using an elastic band to wrap the tool in use to your hand? I have weak grip in my left and practically no grip at all in my right, and will do that sometimes when playing pool or the like that requires both hands.
