I need rubberized push rims, where can I find them at a good price?

Your best bet might be to get normal pushrims and send them to a sports wheelchair place like sportaid to get them coated, because they do rubberised pushrims for racing chairs etc. I am in UK but I think TopEnd wheelchairs are made by invacare in Florida and they are one the major makers of racing chairs.

I got mine from sportaid.com. They are called "vinyl coated" but they are rubber. I like them. I don't have to squeeze really hard to get moving.

As always, it depends how much you want to spend. Spinergys make very good, lightweight (but expensive) pushrims. I also came across a company called Maxgrepp - who's stuff I now sell - who do two types: one for paras (Maxgrepp Para CP Handrims) and the other for tetras (Maxgrepp Original Handrims). They use a fully natural rubber product. It's a Swedish company so designed for cold and inclement weather. And their cost is reasonable.

I had a call today from an Apparelyzed.com member asking about them, and user reviews is the best way to find out more, so please add to this thread if you have bought rubber handrims and have something to say.

Guido, Do you think the replacement rubber might go on a spinergy natural it? Mine is torn up.
Of course, I think it would work to cut a piece of roofing rubber and glue it on there...

With the Originals, the rubber is fitted as part of the manufacturing process to make sure it stays and does the job rather than slipping and being ineffective, so that won't help you in any way.


They have replacement rubber for the Ergo Paras and Ergo Para CPs but I have absolutely no idea as to compatibility. Almost certainly the money you save by trying will end up being a frustrating false economy. If you've spent the money on the spinergys, I'd get the right replacement rubbers for them and enjoy them. (I'm assuming you're talking about their Flexirims? http://www.flexrim.com/).

So new it is not on their web page. A replacement for the plastic type I have is only $50, but every 2 years? Yuck.

The Max Greep handrims are very good. I have the open style as I have used Natural fit handrims and they bring too much snow up with them. Another thing you might try and I use them too are Wheelskins. They are lace on leather covers made by the same company that makes steering wheel covers. They also work well.

Tetra, do you mean the Flexrims? I am sending mine to Spinergy *today* to have them replaced. The rubber on the rims degraded and rubbed away, and got very thin in spots. Then again, they might have been an older style, plus the chemicals that are on winter sidewalks here in MN don't help at all.
