Hello everyone, my question is about the FES bike... are you ok to ride it if you are a complete injury? because I'm T 5-6 complete, and I'v been having headaches after I use it, and I'm wondering is that contributing to that. Also what is the bike good for? I was told muscles and nerves, any info would be greately appreciated, want to know should I continue or not.

Hi Stillhope,
The electrodes could be triggering autonomic dysreflexia (AD). This is a response to noxious stimuli (the FES in this case) below the level of paralysis. Raised blood pressure can cause a headache but more importantly can lead to stroke and other serious problems. Get it checked out as it will need to be monitored. There is a fair bit of info on the site for autonomic dysreflexia.
FES is a great way to exercise our paralysed muscles and keep fit but make sure you are safe.
I hope that this helps.

I just saw this. But Im a T3/T4 complete and ride the fes bike twice a week. Yes you have to monitor your BP because it can trigger AD, Also depending on your physical condition your legs may have to build up to the stim, I was lucky enough to be able to just start riding without my legs fatiguing.
As far as benefits go, it tires your legs out so you get a break from spasms, although when the spasms come back theyre a lot worse, it also helps with circulation ive been told and slowing down muscle atrophy. It is also an excellent cardio workout.

I am a t4 complete injury and have been using my FES bike for nearly a year without any side effects. Is good for reducing spasms, circulation, reducing atrophy and a general cardio workout.
