On july 18th 2011 my 56 year old mother entered hospital for a scar tissue decompression T10/T11 . The surgery should have taken 4 hours after 9 she returned. I knew something was wrong she could not move her legs I was reassurred this was normal and it could be the epidural wearing off. After 10 days still no movement and still the reassurances came. app 10 days later a spinal fluid leak was dectected and repeared successfully (this surgery took 3hours).

13 weeks later there is still no movement or sensation below the waist. The neurosurgeon has told us time and time again the operation was a success and he 'doe's not know why the nerves have not connected back with the legs/brain this could take up to 18 months'. My mother spent 14days on a drip clearing the infection from the spinal fluid leak. Unconvinced by the reassurances I got a second opinion . He too agreed the operation was a success and see's no reason why she can't walk.

We've waited 13 weeks for a place in a rehab hospital and after 2 days a doctor there told us my mother may never walk or regain bowel function so my question is this .: If nothing is wrong then why is she paralyzed?
Has anyone else been in a similar situation to mine and the patient recovered ?

Baring in mind my mother walked into the hospital.

I AM SO GREATFUL FOR ANY OPINIONS ON THIS
THANK YOU.

I hear a flock of dishonest doctors. You have every right to be upset.

I 2nd the obtaining a lawyer pronto! :rtfm:

As to the situation you now find yourselves stuck in.....sadly there are others who walked in & rolled out. That fine print where it says a bunch of lawyer-speak for "you could die or be made worse if so you won't hold US responsible" & ONLY a lawyer can tell you if that mumbo jumbo just saved their asses (they being the hospital, surgeons, etc.) & screwed yourselves or not. :dunno:

Keep us posted....although we can't do anything about your mother's physical condition hopefully we can still help you navigate this jungle.
