Hi I'm a C6/C7 quad. 6 years post injury. I'm currently 36 weeks pregnant and the time is coming closer. I'm nervous and don't know what to expect. My doctor is opting for a vaginal delivery without being induced. My pregnancy has been great so far besides the confusing of what to eat and not really wanting to eat, but I do force myself for the sake of the baby. I was just wondering has anyone experienced labor pains???? how did it effect you without an epidural. I will be getting the epidural once I get to the hospital that is the plan, but i'm concerned about the first signs of labor and how will i know or how will my body react. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a bunch.

One other member twisted_ophelia just gave birth naturally a few days ago. Read her thread "I'm pregnant". It's in this section. I'm sure she'd be glad to share anything with you. You could always send her a PM. Congratulations and good luck!

Vaginal deliveries are easily do-able - it won't be the sci that stops you from having them. I've had both my babies both this way, both well post sci - my last 20 years post injury. No induction at all, apart from maybe eating pineapple! First baby was a week early and I had been 1cm dilated for a week before anything kicked off, and second baby was bang on date.

AD flushes (not full AD) happens when you contract - and you can count them. I was easily getting them every 3 minutes or so and 4cm dilated without any blood pressure / AD issues needing medication. My first baby the waters broke naturally whilst I was still sitting in my chair - in the ward kitchen having some tea! It wasn't till 6 hours later that I had a spinal block (they couldn't get an epidural in for some reason and my bp was rising and AD headache was starting). I had a monitor belt on and could tell them about the contraction from my flush as it appeared on the monitor.

2nd baby I had an epidural in after 36 hours of low level contractions which I felt as flushes across my face. The epidural was good, made me relax and to be frank I had 30 minutes nap an hour before my baby was born. Epidural was in for about 8 hours before the baby came, and we chose to have that in place before my waters were broken by the midwife.

2nd delivery was so much easier on my body than the first - please pm me if you have more specific questions.

Its a most beautiful experience you have before you - I wish I was 36 weeks pregnant again!

I xx
