Recently I've been having a lot of UTIs. I've been in the hospital/rehab since the end of April and have lost count of the number of UTIs I've had since I've been here. I had a theory for awhile now that it isn't new UTIs because I can finish antibiotics and 11 days later have another full blown UTI. I discussed this with my urologist and he agrees that most likely it's the same UTI growing into something different because I still have it when the antibiotics are done. I don't generally notice a UTI until it's pretty advanced. I had been trying to get the Dr. to re-check my urine once the antibiotics are done to make sure the UTI is in fact gone, but even after my urologist put a note in my chart to do this it hasn't been followed.

Which brings me to a new issue. Recently I have finished antibiotics and had a yeast infection, then I got another UTI and after those antibiotics I got another yeast infection. I didn't even have time to finish the treatment for the yeast infection I had before the treatment of yet another UTI began! I don't take antibiotics unless the UTI is actually making me sick.

Has anyone else experienced an increase in yeast infections or UTIs like this? The whole cycle is getting pretty annoying... One of the nurses said her Dr. gives her a pill to prevent a yeast infection whenever she is prescribed antibiotics. Of course here they tend to use the creams that you need to use for a week.

I really hope the Dr. finally starts listening to my urologist and actually re-tests my urine this time like she is suppose to. This is beyond annoying and I could really use a break from feeling sick with the way things have been going...

I've been experiencing the issues regarding UTIs. It's ridiculous and it never seems to end any more. I finally got frustrated with my urologist and he set up an appointment with an infectious disease Dr. It sounds pretty bad but it's not. It just comes down to maybe someone else needing to take a step in, take a look at the medications and possibly prescribe something the urologists is missing. Maybe you can ask your Dr. About this possibility? Good luck!
If you don't try, you fail.

I do try to eat some yogurt, but I'll have to keep this in mind and try to eat more. Thanks for the suggestion, and I hope you don't get too many more yeast infections either!

Thank you! I know the feeling! Just when you think you are over one the other starts... I never thought of an infectious disease specialist. It kind of do sound bad lol, but it makes sense. It has been kind of worrying me having all of these infections while in a hospital environment where things like MRSA exists when my immune system is not at it's best. Of course that episode of the Big Bang Theory last night where Sheldon accidently enters a room and gets infected with something because he was so worried about hospital germs is not helping any Posted Image lol!

The yeast infections happen to me everytime I'm on antibiotics, so now I insist on being prescribed a course of fluconazole for the duration of the antibiotics, and am having good results with that.. I also take a probiotic daily (irrespective of whether or not I'm on antibiotics) called "Probiflora 9-strain".. This has made a huge difference regarding yeast infections..

Hope this helps..

You should search and find some threads on Vetericyn and Microcyn. Their website is www.oculusis.com. It will clear up yeast infections very quickly.

Good luck.
