Hi! Has anyone out there tried botox for bladder control? It's now approved by the FDA, but wanted to see if anyone had any personal experience with it :)

Thanks!!

I've been getting Botox for a number of years for bladder control. It's changed my world.

I get 30 injections into my bladder. The procedure is relatively simple. Although when the doctor injects the botox, I get a bit of an AD response. I get flushed and I can feel my blood pressure temporarily rise. Also sometimes I get a muscle spasm during the injection. After the procedure I get a prescription for antibiotics - to ward off any potential infection. It takes about a week until I can tell the botox is working. I get injections every 6 months, although it wears off in about 5 months.

If you have the opportunity to get botox injections, I totally recommend it.

The 30injections part really scares me..why so many? and how long does this take? How does he do the "30 injections" and how long does this take?

Why so many? and what if your bladder is augmented already? I guess I should just go ask a doctor but if you wouldnt mind sharing..:)

Also, what about UTI's, I never get them, but figure it may have something to do with the fact I HAVE TO PEE SO MUCH! lol that the bacteria never has time to build..if I get botox and can go for say 6-7 hours..do people have more uti's after botox?

I would love to go one night without having to wake up and pee! twice sometimes!

Thanks!

How much can your bladder hold? (Granted, I know each person is different) and do you get AD when it's too full? Just wondering if you get increased volume control with it!

Thanks!!!

lifeisgood: 30 injections seems like a lot, but it doesn't seem like that much when the procedure is being done. The actual injections take around 10 minutes to complete. I spend a lot more time getting in and out of bed and taking my pants off and on.

Regarding UTIs, I haven't had one in years. I still cath regularly - I don't wait 6 or 7 hours before going. I get Botox because my bladder used to spasm even when it wasn't very full. Now I only have a problem if I don't empty it when it is full. I still get AD when it's too full, so that hasn't really changed all that much.

Also, I've been getting botox so long that I don't know if my bladder holds more or not. Depending on how much I drink and my bladder's 'attitude' (which changes from day to day), I cath every 2 to 4 hours, or so during the day. Some days it's more often, other days it's less.

lifeisgood: 2-4 hours may not sound like much of an improvement, but some days I was having bladder spasms every 20 minutes. Now, when I feel I have to go, I have some time to get to the nearest washroom. Your situation is probably different than mine so the improvements that you experience will also be different. In my opinion, Botox is totally worth the temporary pain you might experience.
