It is unbelievable to me how many AB's argue with me when I say that the handicap stall in the restroom should be considered a toilet of "last-resort" for the able-bodied, or non-disabled. If all other, perfectly usable options are not available, by all means, any and everybody has the right to use whatever toilet is available (including the handicap-accessible one). It's simple fairness. We (those w/access-compromising disabilities) have only one option at all times.
All we ask is that the able bodied use the options that they have available to them. And, luckily enough, if the other options AREN'T available, hey, you've got an out-the handicap stall. But the handicap stall should be viewed as a stall of necessity. By everyone, disabled and non-disabled.
When I hear the argument of "well, don't you see how asking people to avoid going in there when no handicap people are around is unfair?" I have many ways of responding. One simple way would be to say, "well don't you see that if it wasn't due to wheelchairs and the disabled being a part of a functioning society, those stalls would never even exist in the first place for you to enjoy?"
And you will actually protest my modest plea for equality and fairness? Evidently, yes. Seemingly every time I go to use the restroom; it'll be empty, empty EXCEPT for the handicap stall that is. And it just contains some AB asshole who wanted to spread out when he took a shit. While I just had to take a piss and my bladder is about to burst while I stare at rows of empty urinals and toilets. Ugh.
I don't know what exactly the solution needs to be, but maybe businesses could start putting signs on the stall doors. Now I know it couldn't be anything like a handicap parking spot, where no one but the disabled can EVER use it; but maybe it could be a sign with gentler language. Sort of like a reminder. "For handicap use. Please refrain from using unless all other stalls are occupied." Or something along those lines. I don't know, but the current system STINKS.
How Could Anyone Argue With This? But They Do...

You make a very good point! I know before SCI I was guilty of using that stall on occasion. I think the reason I liked it was because it was last and more private and usually cleaner.
A sign reminding everyone that this is our only option might help people be more considerate. I'm sure ABs have never thought of it that way.
You have some work to do getting this and parking fixed!!! Are you up to the challenge?

I see exactly what you are saying. I am not going to lie, i used to use the handicap stall when i was AB and there was a perfectly good reason for that. Obviously the stall was bigger and with that being said you have those tiny little cracks that you could see in. with the handicap stall you only had maybe one crack. the toilet isn't squared up to the door. I get irritated too. At my school there is a bathroom on every floor. 1 handicap 1 regular 2 urinals. many times some ab asshole is taking a shit in them. I have to then call an elevator and hope the next one is free. The other thing that pisses me off are the people that use half the f*@king roll to wipe there ass. Then the handicap stall is done. I am personally not going to grab all the toilet paper out of there. I understand your rant. but we live in a world filled with ignorance. We just have to roll with it and rant about it and move on.
