I have bad muscle spasms of my left leg that when I wheel my chair it straightens up. I take baclofen, lyrica and clonazepam but everyday, the spasticity tends to get worse.

I had this problem too for quite a few months. I would be wheeling around, when suddenly one or both legs, would staighten and trying to get them down was a nightmare. I upped my baclofen and this didnt seem to make any difference. This is probably not much help right now but i found, after a time, the spasms simply stopped and now this happens very rarely/

Well Im gonna throw this out there because I know someone will (: lol WEED. I dont personally smoke it, but I know some people do to help relax muscles, just be careful with all the other meds. I find that hot showers, fes bike and streching helps my spasms, im not on any medication for them either (Im to stubborn to take it). My legs usually only straighten after I transfer, I just massage right under my knee and they let up. But talk to your doctor, I know there are other medications/herbals/drugs whatever out there. I think someone said the drinking (alcohol) helped theres lol Good luck (:

I take all the drugs you mentioned (klonopin for anxiety) and baclofin helps me sooo much. But obviously it doesn't help everyone. I like to stretch, swim and take hot baths. It helps my spasticity and some of my pain. If you have to ability to do any of those I'd really recommend it!

Hello Cath,

do you attend to your physical therapy or you have your own regimen of exercises?

Keep checking for new things that might be off about your health, as spasticity increases in response to anything wrong. My leg spasms increase after I exercise strongly, but long term they reduce as i get stronger.

Hello Cath,

I just do my own exercises, and to be honest not quite as much as i should. I did find that allowing the spasms to happen and let the legs do their own thing seemed to help a bit, rather thean trying to "tame" them. I know this can be difficult, especially when out and about, but it seemed to me that if i let them get on with it, they would then give me a break for awhile, if that makes sense. I hope you manage to sort it out.

I'm newly injured, and for the last week or so we started physical therapy but its all been damn near impossible to get through anything due to spasms, I will be going home soon and I'm concerned I wont be able to do much without being hindered by spasms, any advice?

I read through some of your info. What happened? What's the diagonosis and prognosis? When did it happen? Unless I missed it, its kinda difficult to chime in on any advice.

Pete
