My dad has a spinal cord injury from a spinal cord tumor removal surgery. He has had numerous problems for the past 18 months, of which I'm sure you are all familiar. 2 bouts of sepsis from bladder infections gone wild, MRSA picked up at the rehab facility, ongoing issues with bedsores, and at least 2 bouts of pneumonia. He is currently in ICU and was put on a feeding tube this AM because he can't pass the swallow test. His wife has told me that he is lucid and seems to be OK but is having trouble talking due to the mucous, etc. I am really worried for some reason this time around. He is a heavy smoker and was diagnosed with emphysema about 5 years before this surgery occurred so he had lost about 40% of his lung capacity already. The docs have changed his antibiotics again because they feel he wasn't responding to the previous IV drugs. Throw in the fact that he has 2 bedsores that are just about a stage 4 and ongoing bowel issues and general aging issues....I guess I'm just stressed. My dad is only 62.
