Cranberry juice far better than extracts at fighting urinary tract infections:

I personally like taking a cranberry extract pill and vitamin C supplement (if I remember to take the vitamin C) upon waking. It's helped me so far. Cranberry juice has a lot of sugar in it, so I usually avoid it. But it looks like I may have to start drinking it again.

The trouble with the "cranberry juice" found in shops is that it actually only contains a very small percentage of real cranberry juice and mainly consists of sugar and water. It is far much better to take the pills.

I take the extracts and vitamin C too. I am diabetic and can't drink the juice due to all the sugar added. I don't have trouble with the extracts raising my blood sugar.

I like actual cranberry juice if you can find it, but never cranberry juice cocktail (if a fruit juice ever says "cocktail" it usually means its pear juice with water, sugar and the tiniest bit of whatever juice it's advertising). Unless it's with vodka. Then I'll drink cranberry juice cocktail :-) Anyway it's a bit more expensive and really bitter, but a taste you can really develop over time and worth it in my opinion. You can usually find it at natural food stores, from small local ones to the bigger chains like Sprouts, Sunflower Market and Whole Foods.

I was originally taking a cranberry pill supplement everyday but found it wasn't helping much. I now take Vit C 3 times a day and that seems to do wonders for me personally.

Unsweetened cranberry juice is so acidic it rams out my throat to the point that it hurts and my voice is affected. Nope, cannot drink it.

Definitely a developed taste! I really like tart things though. I love vinegar (red wine, balsamic, white) on sooo many things, salad, chips, pasta, bread, veggies... I might be a weirdo though.

I vote not a weirdo.... I'm known for drowning a good number of foods in balsamic or malt vinegar :). So very delicious!

I was drinking cranberry juice and was taking cranberry pills. When I went to my urologist, he asked if I was drinking cranberry juice. When I told him I was, he told me not to touch anything with cranberry. He said my bladder was highly acidic and wanted me to drink lemonade to make my bladder more alkaline This stopped all the burning I had been experiencing in the bladder.

Good luck.

That's really interesting. Did he recommend a specific type of lemonade? Usually it's mostly sugar and water.

I have been told the requirement is lemon water- fresh lemon juice in water, no sugar.

It may be true Tetra (no sugar) but thank goodness my urologist didn't mention it. He told me lemonade. The results were excellent. After drinking the lemonade and getting it to the bladder, the bladder quit burning totally. This may not work for everyone, but it sure worked for me.

Good luck.

Do not bother filling Oceans Spray coffers you would need to drink a swimming pools worth to match a concentrated 1000mg cranberry tablet.
And the stuff is grim although the Manics song about Ocean Spray is excellent.
If it don't make sense I blame the voice typing software misunderstanding me not my failure to listen in English classes!
