From my perspective, this thread a prime example, ATG posts a thread 'asking for opinions' on an experience he has had...but is really seeking validation for his actions or anaysis. For example, the first 2 replys (mine being one of them) disagreed with him, so he felt the need to further sell his point/criticize any opinion differing from his. I read the op and formed my judgement of the situation. He asked my opinion and I took the time to give it...

I might add that I may have been rubbed the wrong way by ATG's way of bursting onto the scene...I think people need to feel out this group before being so "blunt" As you put it. Nobody takes too kindly to the stranger at the party who bursts in and says "Hey Im Billy[sic], Why the f did you choose that outfit?"(poor analogy I know). Joining an online community and throwing out 315 posts on mostly your own whinging threads in the first month appears to me to be dictating the conversation(s) as opposed to feeling out the group.

That being said I dont hold anything against anybody on this site. I may strongly express my opposing arguements with people, but Id be the first to buy ANYBODY (except devos or fakers)on here a beer (or beverage of your choice) and kick it in the real world.

:mfrlol: Priceless!.

Then I suggest that you do not start your threads asking for opinions because they are clearly not what you wanted to read.
Um...yeeeah. :head_brick_wall-1: I see who I am dealing with here. What in the world are you talking about? Are you trying to conflate my "Opinions" thread, in which I described an encounter I had with a police officer and asked members here for their opinions on how they would feel in such a scenario, with you saying that my completely separate thread in which I asked members a hypothetical should be open to your rude comments?

I never asked for opinions of the thread's worthiness, one way or another. I asked for opinions regarding the subject matter within the thread. And that thread happened to be about whether those with SCI would rather deal with spacticity, and the pros and cons associated with it (and what they consider to be those pros and cons) or with flaccidity but no spaciticity.
I'll keep this short. I asked my question in response to posts #111, and # 112 (in which other threads were linked together).

:thread jacked:

dear as far as etiquette...its impolite to eat your finger sandwiches whilst talking and quaffing ale as crumbs tend to get on the linens.....or did I confuse the thread? Oh dear, oh my...back to my cave!

Bad Lav!

Bringing it back....oh yes the police are horrible, here they've never once bothered me. So I guess I would be thrilled if one patrolled and cared if the parking was misused.

Too lazy to figure out the multi quote thingy.....but following

Bags (diva), MTB, and TSH......shall we all now repair to the nearest pub with plenty of parking?

I'd like a cider please. :)

Back to the topic at hand....a worthy one indeed. There should be more enforcement of parking especially those lazy no good walking incompletes....oops that's me. We should definitely be put in the darkest corner of the lot and NEVER allowed to drive a Mazda. Not even yours Paul!

That is my honest opinion! Parking for all camaraderie for all :)

Can I make the comment that not just wheelchair users use handicap parking? My friend has a severe respritory disease (I have no idea how to spell it) and has to be on oxygen if walking long distances. Walking far distances, especially in hot or freezing cold weather, is EXTREMELY difficult for him. Yes, there are people who abuse handicap parking because they are lazy and ignorant, but just because the person isnt in a chair or has an obvious disability, doesnt mean they dont have one. Therefore we should just accept the fact that handicap parking spaces are what they are. People abuse them, this is a known fact, but how bad would you feel if you parked behind someone that had walked out to their car (parked in a handicap spot) because you thought they had abused it, and ends up their a amp or something not as visible. (prosthetic could be covered up by their pants?) hmmm... just adding my 2 cents

So true. My missus appears to be able to walk perfectly for the first 50 yards and doesn't look as though she really needs her cane. By the time she's been round the supermarket she's practically on her knees and is wiped out for the rest of the day. She has a heart condition and fibromyalgia.

This is interesting and I think I am learning something.

First: I didnt realize their was a "group" or an "etiquitte" thing either..as a public board I assume new people come in and out daily..and just post or respond..(I did) as well as the long term users..I had no idea Trophy guy was "new" for example and frankly just found his posts to be thought provoking and interesting...and relatable to me..the chair in the resturaunt thread for example..I totally understood and yes, I validated HIS feelings. I think in that example, yes, he had a bad experience and was looking to share and get responses to make him feel better or understand (nothing wrong with that). If I had said and many did, "Ehh,,no big deal, I let them take my chair all the time", I am sure he would not have argued-just learned that we all don;t feel the same re: our chairs as part of us. I think it was the "don;t be such a whiney loser and make all us crips look bad in restuarants" and "I dont blame your date for not wanting to see you again" kind of comments (yes I am paraphrasing)..that did elicit an further "point/criticism" from him.

When I ask a question re "hot and dry temps in Desert" yeah I am looking for just info..and opinions..when Vanessama (sorry to use you as example, but it is a recent one) post about how upset she is about how people are behaving..I think she is looking for support and validation too...not a "don't be such a whiner" lol. I am sure if someone did say that, she may not have been happy either.

I think the "etiquette" (I can't spell either!lol) book should also have a chapter in how to treat newcomers to the forum...as well as how to offer advise and opinions without insulting the asker.

Now I will have a cranberry vodka please :))

I guess I'll address this to ALL those, here,, who have stated, in one manner or another, that if you don't agree,, or don't want to adhere to the OPs idea of decorum,,, you shouldn't open the thread. Well,,, I come every day,, and I simply hit the "new posts" button. I get whatever anyone has posted since I was here last. Some of the stuff, I don't bother with,, but if I see the same threads being active a lot,,, I can't help myself. I guess I'm just nosy.

For me,,, TG has been a great thing for the forum. His threads have opened up a TON of worm cans,, and provoked a lot of activity,,, and , hence,, thought. Some may come here for sympathy,,, or information,,, or to have their own points of view,, reaffirmed,,, but for me,, the greatest draw this site has for me,,, is the exchange of ideas. Sure,, I enjoy the rest of it,, but even reading the arguments,, without posting,, allows me to open my mind to the thoughts of others,, and none affect me more than the ones I find some disagreement with.

So I thank TG,,, and GB,,,for keeping the spark alive,,,, for without it,, we all lose.

You're right to feel this way but remember people make or pass judgement on others all the time and we're all guilty of it at some point in time ....... just people being people not that it's right.
