I have had partial paralysis since 1979, burst fracture of T12/L1, lower leg AFO's and no movement in my feet. I walk with a cane and get around pretty well. Walking has gotten pretty painful lately from walking knok kneed and now I need new knees. The reason for the post is I wanted to see if anyone has had to go through this procedure with paralysis and how the recovery went.

Appreciate any responses.

Tim

I've had the same knee replaced twice within a year, but that was really the start my problems as the stenosis symptoms (drop foot & numb patches) became apparent during the recovery process. The procedures are NOT pain free.

If you can walk with assistance, you should be able to cope with the PT which mainly focuses on the quads. If you are able, working to strengthen your quads before the surgery will significantly reduce the recovery time. Good luck.

Carpe Diem

For the low low price of only $50 I'll replace yer knees with a couple old ball joints outta an old station wagon. Garenteed never to rust, squeek, or break (Not a garentee)!

I had a hip replacement this summary and just wanted to say that being a wheeler has its perks. They put me in a suite to make sure I had enough room for my chair. The only issue I had was that I couldn't bend the hip more than 90 degrees, which made doing my program interesting. I don't think you have that with a knee.

The PT was no big deal, nothing like with my SCI. After about six weeks I was walking more than before the surgery.

Knowing the pain that you're in, I think you'll be glad you had the surgery. When it comes time for my other hip I know I won't wait nearly as long as I did with the first.
