I am moving house - at last but there is a step of at lease 6 inches on the front door to the street. My power chair ( Permobil) is a hefty lump and I find driving in and out of taxi's quite a challenge when the wheels have a mind of their own and the taxi driver is saying " come straight back !"
I literally don't deviate on the golf ball hand control but when the wheels aren't straight it's impossible isn't it to just roll out backwards without catching a wheel on the side of the taxi drivers ramp?
Last night my power chair cut out because the taxi driver was inpatient and lifted me and the chair more square to the ramp at some risk to his own spine. something cut out and another 30 minutes later he is needing to push me to my wheelchair ramp outside my home with the power chair on manual but I had parted with another £5 thinking that it was probably my fault ( or the power chair ! ) now I've had time to think I realise that it was something the taxi driver must have touched or knocked!
I now must buy a ramp/s for the front door of my new home. Advice please on what I am looking for strength wise ( I have been told to avoid an aluminium roll up ramp due to the weight of the chair. I am probably around about 11 stone myself plus the power chair weight. How do I work out the length of ramp needed for at least a 6 inch step please and has anyone got just what I need second hand ?Thanks riversidealison

River, I use the E-Z Access threshhold ramp to get into my gameroom. They come in 1" increments up to 6". They are rated at 600 lbs. I purchased thru Planet Mobility, 6" goes for $139 and secure a couple different ways. Hope that helps. mark
