Hello everyone new guy here. Im a t7 t8 incomplete 4 months into this lovely SCI life haha. I have the tightest hips in the morning and randomly throughout the day. I stretch and it helps somewhat but I was hopeing for some tips or advice from others who suffer this also. Also as if that wasn't enough my butt cheeks spasm and are tight too. 😳 Any help would be much appreciated thanks.

Hi Inkd, I have the same problem. Part of it is SCI related, in my case, and some is the nature of my injury. You might be referring to the psoas muscles. They run from the small of the back, around the hips and attach to the front part of the hips. If you've been laid up for these four months or have been in a wheelchair, my guess is that the psoas is the problem.

I do a stretch where I kneel on the floor on one knee (kinda the classic 'down on one knee' position). I stretch forward, then back, holding each position for about 10 counts. Do that several times and then switch legs. I'm not sure what your abilities are. If this is not possible, try lying on your back along the edge of the bed. Then, dangle one leg off the edge, touching your foot to the floor if you can. The weight of your leg will give you the same stretch. Therapudic massage will also help. Sometimes I use a heating pad, just to get warmed up enough to stretch.

This is a hard area to work because neighboring muscles tend to try to 'help out'.

Keep on working them. They will let up but it takes work.
