Short answer --> (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kratom)

Here is some background information. I am fairly new to my injury and have been experiencing a lot of pain in my upper back the longer i sit in my chair. After 5hrs or so I want to lay down for 15 mins but sometimes that doesn't help. I am 6'4 in a loaner chair, and I have had hardware put in from T1-T5. I believe my DR thinks im just a kid trying to get drugs. He has prescribed me hydrocodone 7.5 and lyrica And won't go up on the dose. Well Mr. Doctor I did my own research and found an found an alternative, no prescription needed.

I found a plant named Kratom, a tree from southeast asia. I was a little skeptical but after a little research and a lot of shopping around* I ordered some. You can get the whole leafs, powdered kratom, or an extract. I went with 50grams of powdered. With the leafs or powdered you can make a tea. I was too lazy for that i just mixed 5gs powder into some chocolate milk and chugged!

After 30mins or so I could tell it as working and honestly i was very surprised that it wasn't a placebo health stores try to sell.
I was no longer in pain, and it was kinda enjoyable. I have only used it for about 3 days but so far so good. I'll update the thread if i notice any side effects. Besides chugging the earthy powder, which is a crude way of taking it anyways, it was overall pretty effective. I thought it was worth sharing! If anyone else knows any other EFFECTIVE pain relief being Natural or Pharmaceutical let me know please :)

*If you do order do some shopping around. There are some low quality overcharging vendors out there.

Congrats on finding relief, but be careful. I took a look at that link and that stuff is serious medicine. It is a controlled substance in many other countries.

The availability of a wide array of seemingly innoucous products over the internet without a prescription make people feel like they are getting a relatively safe, harmless product; when it very well could be powerful drugs or poisonous imposters. There is no regulation so there is no way to know what you are getting. Not to sound like a broken record, but please use caution with that stuff.
Blessed but Cursed

Thank you for your concern, I made sure to do plenty of research before ordering. Honestly i don't believe its any more harmful than the controlled substances a doctor would prescribe to me for pain.

I totally agree with you L(s)D lolz juz kiddin :), most of the medications ur GP will prescribe u in a lifetime of illnesses will be funded by commissions from pharmaceutical companies, they get holidays, hundreds of thousands of dollars, cars, jewellery, whores ...u name it... ur doctor is lapping it up!
these medications unfortunately altho broad spectrum are not always suitable for the masses of people their prescribed to, they can cause more damage than good in these instances.

the point I got from TG is that these alternative medicines are either not controlled/tested-you cant always be 100% sure exactlty what ur taking and in what amounts, they may not be approved for the treatment ur using it for, the side effects are unknown.... the legality is also an issue.

I recommend u use proven safe alternate medicines given by a qualified practioner... this is ur best bet... I would certainly be wary of what online products are promoting and always check with medical professionals before commencing any self medicating... find out if there is any contraindication to mixing with meds or certain nuerological disorders.

I did read ur link and noticed it said no research has been done into the long term effects of using Kratom..... so hmmm, I'd be careful...
I've known mates to lose there minds just smoking weed, one thought stalkers were living in his ceiling cavity and the other a male was pregnant with an alien baby lol
unfortunately both of these mates ended up losing their minds to the point of serious injury...physically n mentally.
so what might be completely safe for me to smoke for over a decade may fuk another person up beyond repair. note: these mates had not been smoking weed that long

just wana keep u safe hun :)

yes this was my point initially if u may have missed it- so I totally agree with u GB, but unfortunately doctors dont put pills in ur mouth ..u do. they have a job to do, if they do it well, good stuff.
I've known a few "Dr Nic's" (aka the Simpsons dodgy dr) in my time... I recommend that dont u go to them.

instead of using some medicine u have no idea of whats in it from some online dodgy retailer who also wants to fleece u of ur money and/or health...
see someone local that comes recommended by a friend or whatever, this is much safer than putting urself in the hands of a stranger u never actually meet face to face.

My doc runs proven tests to ascertain whats wrong with me before throwing pills in my direction, if i dont believe these well known (commissioned) prescriptions are suitable then I refuse... simple...

I think that u need to be careful what you put into you body especially if its not fully researched and/or regulated.....

moving forward ...:)

I went to a pain Specilist and he Prescribed me oxymorphone. I take it occasionally but I feel the Kratom is a safer more natural alternative that is actually effective

I need to chime in here as a user of Kratom. I have been with spinal cord injury for 5 years now. For the first 4 years I was on a roller coaster of prescribed and alternative type medicines. I have taken so many things to experiment with my nerve pain relief. All just for about a month or two to see what helped. I was on lyrica, neurontin, volume, oxycodone, morphine pills, volume, xanax, herbs, acupuncture, marijuana, reflexology...not all at the same time of course! As I said, only in trial runs. SO, about a year ago, I found Kratom. It is the only thing out of that entire list that gives me relief from my nerve pain. In terms of side effects, they are much less extreme than some prescription drugs that I have taken that mess with your brain chemistry on a higher level...BUT it can be a dangerous substance if you are not careful. These are the things that you need to take care of when using Kratom: dehydration, you need to drink lots of water to balance this...constipation, also drink lots of water and eat fruits and veggies or you will just cause more pain...addiction, it has alkaloids similar to opiates and so you will become addicted after taking it for a long time, so you should only take it when you need it and not for recreation. SO thats all I have to say about that! Take Care of yourself and stay calm and that will also help you stay pain free. Swimming is wonderful for pain management too : )
