How Dangerous Is This Procedure?

My boyfriend has a failed pump inside of him and is heading into surgery on Tuesday to get the pump and catheter replaced...
He does not do well with Anesthetic and so I am quite worried...
how long does this procedure usually take to get the whole shebang replaced?
Is it a dangerous procedure...
Any of you have a reaction to anesthia? Should I be really worried??
