I Tried Callipers For The First Time Today!

So I'm a chair hater! I've been injured a year and if I'm honest I still hate the thing as much as I did I'n day one! I'm a t-10 complete and a prityy High injury I'n terms of caliper use but today I got the ball rolling!

They were universal big scary looking buggars and i won't lie it was a realwieird feeling standing I'n them! You have to tilt your hips verry forward till there pretty mush I'n line with your toes! I just used a sort of granny stand instead of crutches to ballance!

It's not easy as your kind of just balancing on a pivot on top of your hips! And ATM my balance is realy bad as I don't realy stand much inns standing frame! So with a physio just keeping my hips steady I took a couple "steps" at a time and also tried abit of a swing through movement! It's hard work but then again so was a transfer when you first got I'n a chair!

I realy want to give this a good crack as I will be honest it felt great being back at peoples head Hight! I know people say it's inefficient and probly pointless as you can't do it long term anyway! But when the world wasn't so wheelchair friendly people had no choice and did use parawalking well!

Going to keep on at this but unfortunately I've got a 6 month wait to get re-admitted to physio! Guess I'm gunna have to train myself at home because I'm not waiting anymore :)

It's good to see you smile :) Keep us posted! Also look around on the forum there are a few others here (I'm sure they'll chime in) who use, or have used them. Take all info in and weigh it out...then do what's best for you :)

well, it does feel good to stand and be at eye level with people. Also, you can empty your bladder easier and more completely standing. Standing in the bath to shave and wash up is also easier. But, can you free stand without holding on to something. If not, it will severely limit anything you attempt to do standing. My injury is T12/L1 and I have no glutes to hold my hips under me and nothing to balance with without holding on to something. If your butt gets back too far on you, you will fall on it hard. I have to sway-back to keep my hips under me and usually lean forward against something. You can get a pretty good sense of balance after a while. Be sure to maintain you shoulders because you will still need them a lot. I have used KAFOs for 50 years and am about to transition to living without them. I don't know how I am going to do this, but my shoulders will no longer get me up out of my chair and standing. And, if I fall, there is no way I will be able to get up without help. Just keep trying on your own and find what is right for you. You will get better with it but be careful that you don't fall and injure something else. Good luck on finding out what you can do with them.....
