Hello everyone t7 t8 incomplete I'm 5 months into this great SCI life, I was wondering if anybody suffered from the same pain I do and if they had any info to help. Well like I said earlier I'm a t7 t8 but have daily bad pain in my lower back for some reason it's not even close to my injury or scar. Any ideas......

My friend is t-6 t-7 area and he complains all the time that his lower back hurts i tell him thats good you can feel well below the injury point and he kinda just looks at me funny? lol i think it may be common though? if you lay flat or recline a bit when it hurts does it subside? are you in a chair for a while when it hurts?

My injury is much lower but I suffer from great pain and nothing I have tried worked. I know just deal with it and channel as much as I can. If it gets horrific I go to sleep. I do take Valium now and again when very tight and that does help. Sometimes a heating pad helps but not usually. It depends why I am in pain. My biggest issue is sitting so I stay in bed with my feet elevated and that is fine then. I get great pain under my butt bone, around the coccyx, and then shooting pain up the sides of my spine to the injury spot. Then of course the burning follows.
I wish you luck with finding something that helps. I know some people I have met find that nerve blockers help them, some say meditation but you have to try for yourself to see.

Hi Inkd760,
I have suffered tremdous pain in legs and back since my injury in 1990, surgery made worse, as I have adhesive scar tissue of a very aggressive nature. I am L5-S1 incomp + further damaged discs. I have tried all kinds of pain killers and muscle relaxants without much success. I was a lab rat for fentanal patches and gabapentin.
I was already on Dilaudid,a strong pain killer, but when this was used in combination with gabapentin, It's the best I've had it.
Most important is finding a doc who understands how things work, I've found they are few and far between. I also take restoril for sleep, but only when it's really bad.
Good luck trying to find relief, keep at it and stay as fit as you possibly can. Best wishes Ian

I have the same level injury as you T8 complete and I have those pains too. I only get them when im sitting for too long. Your back is under a lot of stress now that you don't have your obliques to hold you up and all the other fun muscles so that puts a lot of stress on your back especially how it's arched ( i assume you don't sit up perfectly straight).
To relieve it, I just lay down on my back or stomach and within 5 minutes the pain is gone.
You will get stronger and will be able to sit up longer and longer and experience less of that lower back pain as you adapt.

For the first year or so the back pains were quite intense and most para's I've spoken to have said the same. With 5 months into SCI you're still fresh and your body is still adjusting. I went through tubes and tubes of Voltaren ointment which helped quite a bit.
Best of luck

Well thanks everyone for ur replies. I'm on neurontin for the awesome knife stabs I feel in my thigh and it has helped a lot. I'm also on baclofen for spasms. It does seem to hurt more when I sit for long periods I usually put on a heating pad. I was prescribed Norco for pain but I only take when I can't stand the pain anymore. I've always hated pills and still do but what can I do. Since I'm only 5 months in its nice to have a place to vent or ask questions to people who know what I'm going through thanks again everyone.👍
