As mentioned in other posts I was very young when I had my SCI. Now as an adult I look back and go WOW how I made it through was truly a miracle. We lived in a small town on the side of a mountain, it was at least an hour by car each way to the hospital for family and friends to visit. So visiting was not an everyday thing. Believe me that between not having family and friends around all the time and having to go through PT at the age of 10 was hell enough, I could have went to pieces in a matter of hours. My friends came up with an Idea of how to keep me from becoming depressed either it be alone or just thinking of my accident. I am a huge Def Leppard fan and at the time of my accident i had been listening to them for about 3 years. My friends went into my photo collection and made copies of each of the members and a great group shot. Everyday the nurses would take a photo and tape it to my food table so i could see it. Some may know of the drummer Rick Allen who was in a bad car accident and lost his left arm, he became my inspiration to make it through everything and to hopefully walk again. To make a long story short, I got out of the hospital in February and did rehab from home due to were we lived (52 stairs from front door to street) to give you an idea. In October of that year Def Leppard came to town and I was surprised with a ticket to go to the concert with a friend of mine and my Physical Therapist. Anytime i get to a point were I just stand the pain I look at a picture of the band and I smile and remind myself that if they can do it I can still to.

My mother got so mad at the fact that i was starring at a picture of someone who she thought was nonsense, this was the beginning of the MTV hard rock era, but as she talked to the dx's and nurses she realized that what she did not approve of was helping improve me.

As a side not of inspiration, Rick Allen has a show on BlogTalkRadio.com called Resiliency Radio, I listen every time he has a show come in.
