Hi guys I'm looking to rent a property privately for a while before I can get my own place! I'm not going with council because I will be waiting forever and nothings available! I'm abit worried however that no where is really adapted for a chair! It's just steps and shower really that is the problem! For these problems I can get them sorted by the local services but i can't imagine many landlords would want these adaptions?? What have your experiances with this been?

Hi mate

like you ive had to go down the privately renting option as not quite in a position to buy yet and the flat i was renting before at time of accident was top floor with no lift!!! also, as for council / la housing round here, no chance which if you ask me is just wrong and just adds to our problems in these early days.

I was very lucky and while in sci rehab searched rightmove everyday for a solution and luckily found a bungalow that already had a concrete ramp to the side door and a basic wetroom because the lady that owned it previously had them fitted. other than that the place is as "normal" as a bungalow in a road full of bungalows can be if you get me. in an ideal world, the wetroom could be bigger and be re-configured to allow better access to the wc, etc.
In regards to adapting to things further, my landlord has said no because im only on a 6monthly rolling lease. if it was more of a longer term lease and i was willing to pay for it he said he may consider but im hoping on not being here to much longer. i knwo you can get grants for adapting properties if you are planning on being there for 5 years + but not sure how that would work with privately renting.

hope you managed to find something soon

Rich

Thanks rich! Yep the wet room is really the main thing! I'm just wondering if transfers in and out a normal bath are possible or if anything else can at least make them possible apart from another person lifting me lol!
