Concert to Raise Cauda Equina Charity Awareness - Cauda Equina Syndrome UK

A concert is being held in Loughborough to raise both money and awareness of a spinal condition being suffered by a town woman.

After suffering two prolapsed discs last July, 38-year-old Annie Glover developed Cauda Equina Syndrome - permanent nerve damage to the base of the spine - which has left her needing to use a wheelchair and partially paralysed from the waist down.

After learning of the condition, Annie was shocked to find many people suffer from back problems due to undiagnosed CES, so is raising money for a new charity, Cauda Equina Syndrome UK, with a concert at Loughborough University’s Village Bar venue on December 10.

Annie said: “There is a lack of understanding about this both with doctors and nurses and with the general public. Not everybody knows about this.

“It can affect everything from the pelvis area down - limbs, bladder, sexual organs, feeling in the skin, use of muscles - and people can be in wheelchairs full-time. This can also affect mental health.”

Mario Paparozzi, a friend of Annie’s helping to organise the concert, said: “We’ve got two tribute acts performing, ABBA Gold and a Frank Sinatra tribute Morgan Perkins.

“The concert is about raising awareness as well as money for the charity, which is just being set up.”

For tickets at £15 per person visit the venue, Casa Cafe in Loughborough or call 07951 127895.

• Boots in Loughborough have supported a raffle for the night with donations.
