Just curious I'm a t7 t8 para due to a motorcycle accident July 1st of this year. I was just curious as to how many people on here are injured due to a motorcycle accident and how did it happen. I was on my 06 Suzuki GSXR 600 riding home from work @ 7am and a guy in a pick up tried to beat a red light in front of me while I'm doing 50mph with the green light in front of me. So it was either Tbone him or or lock em up.... I went down slid under his truck got wedged right in front of his front drivers side tire my lungs were collapsed and my spine twisted so that's my story what's yours???? 👏

I was learning to ride in a large, wide open parking lot. It was about my third or fourth time on a bike and it was my second time on my buddies 07 CBR600RR. I watched him ride a figure eight and decided that I wanted to try it. He originally was very apprehensive and only relented after much protest on my behalf and alas I went back onto the bike. I remember trying and not succeeding and then just riding around and called it a day and went home. Little did I know that none of that happened. What apparently did happen is I had too much gas when I let off the clutch (his bike had a very short clutch) and the bike started to pull up on me. Instead of being sensible and letting go or even jumping off the bike I instinctively grabbed the handlebars and went full throttle. I rode it out for over 70 feet and ended up hitting a sidewalk which sent the bike up in the air. After it hit a guardrail I let go and the bike went higher up. Unfortunately gravity kicked in and brought the bike down and landed on me, according to my buddy. I broke 7 ribs, left collar bone, right wing of my pelvis, lacerated both lungs, hematoma behind my right eye, and had damage from t4 - t10 to my spine. The majority of spinal damage is at my t10 level. And here I be.

D. Smith,
and your poor buddy is saddled with a lifetime of regret!
Does this count? I was injured on my bicycle when a car made an illegal turn in front of me and I could not stop.

He said it was only like 2 minutes from the hospital and he was hit by a drunk drive. The other one raced on dirt tracks and lost control going around a turn and went through the fence.

I have to admit to managing to do myself in by jumping off a ZX7RR and the astonishlngly rapid pace of 25 mph!
Been riding for years 900 Fireblades and the like and quit riding when I had kids. Mid life, summertime, just one more time etc etc so I bought a little 700 just for a few months.
Only had it a month, out on a windy night, big gust in the side, was going too slow and the bike drifted to the verge and was heading to go down an embankment so I bailed rather than roll down with the bike. Well I rolled and fractured T4, internal bleeding and now I'm writing this!
Stupid shit happens, I honestly think if it had not been the bike then something else was going to get me, I lucked out so many times over the years in bike and car crashes that my luck was more than used up I think.
My way of rationalising it and going forward with a smile, he, he,...

I hear you EC.
I've had all sorts of crashes on all sorts of bikes and the one that finally slowed me down was ralatively minor.
Over the bars (mountain not motor) and onto my head.
Suffered a wee scratch on my ankle and broke one little bone..
Out of the gloom a voice said unto me, "Smile and be happy, things could be worse." So I smiled and was happy and behold things did get worse.

No idea what happened to me - but a witness told one of my women that I'd been riding very sensibly & correctly. Managed to leave the road anyway, off out into the field on the outside of the bend (Riding a 2001 Kwacker ZZR600).

Did enough damage to kill 3 normal yooman beans, but...I ain't normal, nosirreebawb. :girl_devil:

I was a hurt on a bike too- hit and run- we were on our 1500 Honda Goldwing with a sidecar-as big as a small car mind you- when someone went to change lanes, hit the side car, drove us into the wall and I flew off. I hit the road and did the inertia thing- hit the pavement and slid for about 70ft- broke 6 ribs, 1 lung punctured/1 collapsed, broke my pelvis, shoulder blade, compound fracture left arm below elbow, major road rash- lost the top half of my left thigh(was so large they could get their fist up into my knee cap), almost served ring/pinky on left hand, closed head injury- yes I was wearing a helmet! The said the only thing that saved me was my helmet and my weight! (yeah my fat worked for me once!)...I NEVER EVER get on a bike without a helmet(thank goodness!) It did fly off when the chin strap broke tho but it did it's job! I also died 3 times between the scene and the hospital which was about 5 mi away. The trauma head doc was on duty, thank goodness! I was in REALLY bad shape and they didn't expect me to live- but here I am 9 yrs later!! Just had my re-birthday on Nov. 10! I was one of the lucky ones-if you want to call it luck....sadly a lot don't make it..yeah it sucks to be in a chair now, but, life rolls on..we make the best of what we've been dealt...it is what it is...my hubby was driving and our son was in the sidecar- hubby pulled some muscles in his chest and son got a small scratch on his arm when the hatch of the sidecar flew up- all in all things could have been a lot worse! Oh and the one driver who did stop- a quart beer bottle rolled out of his truck when he got out- nice...NOT! Of course he took off too...police arrived and guess where the beer bottle landed- yep- under the bike! Police questioned hubby when it was found...but soon figured out it wasn't ours...to this day I wonder- How in the hell can you hit someone and just take off? We figure they were either drunk, no insurance, illegal or all the above...take your pick..I do believe in karma so they'll get theirs one day as well...

You never forget the date. September 18, 1981 I was 22 and riding a Suzuki 350cc home from work in the Texas Hill Country around midnight and swerved to avoid a deer, laid my bike down and slid off the road. I cracked my helmet open and laid injured on the side of a dark country road for about 8 hours until the sun rose. I was paralyzed from the lack of blow flow below t-4. No insurance and no one to sue. It was back to school for me.

It was pure bad luck. Just one of those things. Innocently riding my bike on a strange road at night with a girl riding pillion. I was out to impress her big time, particularly in demonstrating that a lightweight Japanese bike was faster than a four-stroke British bike. After I full day of riding on loose gravel I was rather tired. Also hadn't eaten. I just happened to be as drunk as a newt.

Apparently, I hit a patch of gravel when cornering an approach to a bridge. The bike and I parted company. My awareness deserted me and I missed the good part where I apparently flew...for some distance. I awoke to find myself the hero in the James Bond movie with an evil whitecoated man trying to extract my name from me. I held out, refusing to cooperate...that is until the nice nurse spoke softly to me and I spilled all my secrets.

In 2006 I was 21 and was riding my 1998 GSXR600 home from dropping my g/f at the time off at work. It was rush hour traffic in the city and a lady coming from the opposite direction turned in front of me to get into her neighborhood. I had no time to react and I hit her at about 50 mph. She was driving a Ford Expedition, I managed to hit her with the bike in the passenger side rear wheel and tire with the bike. At this height I went through the side windows and out the other and slid down the road a little further. I completely broke my spine between T4-T6 as well as my right forearm, right wrist, broke three ribs on my left side which punctured one lung. I was wearing a full faced brain bucket which kept me alive but the front broke off and with that broke my lower jaw off both hinges and shattered my chin and a bunch of teeth.

In September 2009, I was leaving work on my 2008 Ninja 650R. The street I was pulling out onto was lined with parallel parked cars so I always had to gun it and go. Well one day, I pulled out and a car was speeding by. I did not get hit but they squeezed me off the road and I hit a tree helmet first which crushed my spine from T3 to T6. I'm a T1 complete now. Still amazes me how so much can change in a blink of an eye. I'm just thankful I still have my arms.

July 7th 1990. Kawasaki Ninja ZX10 with all the aftermarket goodies. I grew up riding, first minibike at the age of five. The Ninja was my need for speed bike, also had a Honda v65 Magna for cruising..

Left the road at 100+ mph, slid for 300 ft before hitting culvert ditch. Was there for nine plus hours before I was found. Sure do a lot of thinking while staring up at the stars wondering if you’ll ever be found. Remember it like it was last night.

First broken bones -completely severed my cord at T4, broken collarbone, several broke ribs. Very lucky to be alive and live each day with a complete different outlook.....

June 18, 1971...last day of grade 12 riding home from a friends', clipped a groundhog about 2 miles from home, ended up on the other side of the road, bounced off a steel fence post and landed in a culvert & a foot of water, that was around 11pm. Unconsious for 8 hours, awoke to traffic but I was 12 feet down an embankment, removed my helmet and tried to throw it on the road, never did happen. After trying to assess what the hey was going on, I pulled myself out of the culvert and hand-over-hand reached the roadway after about a half hour. Good old boys from department of highways took it from there. Nurses later told me it took about a month to remove the grass stains from my hands; just thankfull I was wearing my new leather wrestling champs jacket!
There's irony here, when I was leaving my freinds place the old 250 Yamaha refused to start, so my freind offered to drive me home, but no, I needed my bike at 6 the next morning to go and manage a turkey farm for a few weeks before heading to Quebec for a summer construction job; anyway, I removed and cleaned a spark plug and the old beast was ready to take me home......Also road a Zusuki 90 Cat for dirt biking, laid that little wizard down a few times also, but the only consequense from that was a few scrapes and exhaust burns. Have always wanted to get back to riding however the costs certainly do out weigh the benefits.

My husband was on his Harley, beautiful clear day, 1:00PM in the afternoon, straight road. Guy turned in front of him, said he didn't see him. Sean hit him head on. He didn't have time to even try and lay it down. Anyway, shattered T4/5, broke several ribs, bruised sternum, collapsed lung, lacerated spleen, almost tore off his left ankle and foot. That happened Oct 7, 2010. He's a T3 complete now.

Hello fellow silly buggers, Mine was vintage road racing at mosport in 1989, chasing a 350 bultaco, I was on my self built/tuned 500cc Norton shortstroke domiracer, we were actually on the cool down lap but having to much fun.
A whole bunch had gone down in corner 2, so I was flat out, I figure around 120mph, something happened the bike went up into the air and I went over the top. I remember going up, but not hitting the track, the bike went flying up over the top of the wall and into the mud enbankment, I saw it just before I lost it. Old roadrace suits were just leather bags to keep your bits and pieces in. Aparrently I got lucky and slid between the opening in the walls, otherwise I wouldn't be writing this little ditty.
This was bad, the bike was wrecked, but the surgeries they did, were worse.

Morale of the tale, stay away from surgeons, they wear masks, baggy clothing and carry lots of knives, say's it all.

All the best Ian
