Hi I am new to this forum my name is Guy Im 46. I got hurt when I took a tumble down a mountain on a snowmobile Feb.1st 2001. Im a T-11 Paraplegic and I have lived with my parents ever since I got hurt which I regret now only because I need to learn to be independant. I had a great Job and a great girl but lost both now I live off of social security disability $1600 a month. I guess my health has been up and down but lately Im starting to really get scared and depressed about the future. Some times I feel like im having panic attacks I didnt feel this way for the first 9 years. Anyways maybe it will help to talk to others like myself is there anyone here that lives in Michigan? Just curious.

Thanks for the fast post back. And Thanks I did have a nice thanksgiving family support I do have thank God. I dont even know how I found this place I was just sitting here feeling depressed clicking around and there it was. I wish I would have found this place sooner I guess Im 10 years late. Just some more about me I drive myself in a nice big van I have. I could really use some more friends most my old friends dont call anymore. Lucky my sister and nephew are both nurses so it helps if I am in the hospital I always I have family there. I guess my main problems is PAIN and bladder leakage. I have been on opiate pain meds for 10 years and Im starting to slowly take less and less now finally. I work out almost everyday when I can. I started playing wheelchair bball last year but it was just to far away who I was playing with (need to find people playing closer)I had so much fun playing but those chairs are alot of money for that sport. Well Ill stop here before I ramble on and on. Would like to get to know some more people like myself here.

Hey man, good to meet ya! I'm in Michigan, where abouts are you specifically? Are you anywhere near the Detroit area? I'm about an hour away myself. And we have similar injury dates, with mine being not quite a year before yours (mine was April 2000). We also have similar injuries levels too; I'm a T-10/12. I look forward to getting to know you...

I live in the Swartz Creek area. Where abouts in Detroit are you? Ya we both have similiar injuries and even the timeframe. How did you join the crip club if I may ask? And to what I used to do who ever asked I was a Team Cordinator at General Motors Lansing car assembly. Had to give the job up because they said my chair would be to unsafe in the plant. I loved that job it was a very hard thing to do I hired in at Flint Assembly Truck and bus but later transferred to Lansing.

I'm not actually in Detroit, I'm in Davison (which is much closer to you). Wow, small world. I was paralyzed from emergency surgery after a car accident in 2000. But I was born and raised in Flint.

Oh, well I live, eat and breath to work out, so I'd love to work out with ya one of these days! :emoticon-0165-muscle: One of the big things that captured my interest about weight lifting and eventually bodybuilding were the challenges they presented when doing them from a wheelchair-and without use of your legs. It was (and still is) the constant need to think "outside the box" and figure out ways of doing things that AB people take for granted, and that seem simply out-of-reach at first.

Do you go to a Gym or just work out at home? Ive been working out at home but I need to get to a gym that has more stuff than what I do. I only have dumbells and free weights and a hand bike but I guess thats all one really needs. But I need a good work out routine for a wheelchair user. But since you are really into in to it I bet you have solved alot of the problems I have encountered. I had someone to work out with when I first got hurt but he moved a while back , its really hard to stick to it without someone pushing ya.

Yeah, I work out in a gym (a couple of them, actually). I've had some issues at my former long-time gym, Hurley Health and Fitness, so I'm no longer working out there. I had been there for a decade though. Now I am bouncing back and forth from Planet Fitness and Genesys Athletic Club.

Planet Fitness basically sucks but it's cheap and it was the first place I could find when I left Hurley Health and Fitness (HHFC). However, they don't have any arm-bikes so I can't do any cardio there. That is why I go to Genesys. Plus Genesys has WAY better equipment all-around. But it's way expensive, too.

It's sounds like you have a pretty good set up at home, but me personally, I gotta get out and get in a "gym environment" in order to really get into into it, you know what I mean? Plus, you get to work out around/with other people, so you have the help and safety of others. And more and better equipment than home stuff.

I'm gonna PM you with some more details. Everyone else don't need to be bored with this. lol

Some snow last night huh? Ya I used to love the snow but then again I was an avid snowmobilier. But thats how I joined the crip club me and my machine took a tumble down a mountain. Feb 1st 2001 was the exact date a day I will never forget. Alot of nice people here from Michigan I have found.
