I finally got an adpated minivan even though I wanted VW Caddy like you all have in the UK. So the van has the Braun Entervan adaptions, but still I am having a hard time getting into the van. It feels like more work just getting into it because I have too push so hard with my manual chair.

Once up in the van I have to then transfer to the driver seat, which does pivot but it hits the side of the car and is scratching it. Let alone the driver seat is about four inches higher than my wheelchair so that is hard getting into it too. It won't lower any more, believe me I have tried.

Also, I don't know what to do with my wheelchair. It just slides around and once it slid behind the driver seat and I had a hard time reaching it.

So I am wondering for those of you who have modified minivans, does it get easier and can you give me some tips to getting in and using it?

hi anna,

i have a braun mini van and mine has a driver's seat that not only spins around but lowers as well. you may be able to remount the seat you currently have onto the 6 way seat to help you there. my chair rolls around some but once i swivle around i'm able to get a hand on it and drag it closer. as far as the extra work involved in getting up the ramp. does your van kneel? i have in the past accidently hit the button and taken it off kneel.

i've had 3 mini vans and really like them but i'm used to them by now.

hope this helps,

hi fellow gimps! i'm a c 6/7 quad and have been injured since 1986. i was in a roll over hydroplane accident and it took hours for the paramedics to get me out of the car in the pouring rain. that definately wasn't my day. but alas life goes on!

I will ask them about the kneel feature. It does go down when I push the button, but you must be stronger than me because I really have to pump to get up the ramp.

As for the 6 way seat, I will ask if they can remount the seat because it is four inches too high for me.

Thanks for letting me know.

I agree the ramp is a bit steep. The only way for me to get in is to shift my butt ahead or I would flip over. If you find it hard to transfer why not drive from the chair. Always have done it that way as I only have one good hand and it's fast and easy.
