Wow, that was really not good reading. I must say that the way editors sometimes structure various stories can have very negative connotations almost like subliminal brainwashing. That method of presentation is almost as bad as the content of the story itself.
That is something that Dave absolutely nailed in his piece.

Thanks for posting this.

Sounds like a well balanced guy - chip on both shoulders. To ascribe such bigoted views of the couple in the bar to the british pubic in general beggars belief!

So, I had just picked up some 'sticky toffee pudding cookies' and put them in the bag at the back of my wheelchair, when I noticed that a young couple was watching me. With disgust on their faces. At first I thought it was because people don't like seeing fat people buy cookies, but then, I got the feeling that they had classified me as a 'useless' cripple using benefit money to buy something frivolous.

I think he was probably right first time, people DON'T like seeing fat people buy cookies. They also don't like people putting food into their bag until it's paid for.
As I see it, he got looks of disgust coz he was a fat person stealing cookies from Tesco rather than anything else!

Lol! I thought they gave him the disgusted look cause it appeared he was stealing. I don't dare try that here for a fear of store security tackling me! ... Okay, a bit of an exageration but I'd rather not bother with the inconvience of being stopped. :P

I feel that man has serious issues. Like he can't see the good in anything, everything and everyone MUST be against him. Possibly he hates himself and is projecting this?

While I believe it is true, he is guilty of projecting some of his own prejudical beliefs regarding disability and those who live with it; he is also bringing up real and valid issues.

Maybe they were giving him a disgusted look because he hand't realized that he just rolled through a large pile of dog :poo:

And everyone knows the women goes overboard first! Then It gets a lot quieter.
When a man falls overboard, they shout "Man Overboard!" When a woman falls overboard, the shout "Full Speed Ahead!" :dev:

To be honest, I'd have been more "disgusted" at the fat man rather than the disabled man buying sweets.

But unless he actually ASKED these people watching him... no one will know for sure. He's opinions are simply that, his.

I agree that the part where he put the candy in his bag may have been misinterpreted as shoplifting. But the comments he mentioned don't surprise me. I don't know why but people often say the most shocking things to wheelers without realizing how offensive it is.
