BTW...

My Everest remark was not a joke, I'm not in this condition because I played life safe. Nor was my living in the moment a joke, it is 34+ yrs of SCI experience/wisdom...reaching out, supporting anyone that faces this SCI dance day-to-day. Big steps don't work, set smallish, attainable goals, fail and succeed, learn, adapt, grow; set higher/tougher goals as you continue on this bumpy path...

In 30 yrs being SCIed, I never had need of this kind of site, these last four it's, life, has been rather difficult, the membership/fellowship, has been a huge positive...without paralysis in my life (in any capacity) I wouldn't have had, continue to have such wonderful support.; family, friends, colleagues have/are there still as well. Yes there are major positives...I've stopped counting and just enjoy them; it works for this ole man...and I'm all over this site; bare as a babies bottom.

To all, use the search function...there is much buried treasure here on App...leverage it to your best gain.

And, be well n happy...when possible!

Jerry

Hmm, Jerry makes a good point about positives that have come about from many years SCI (though with 34 years he is still a pup to my 42). In the last few years I've been learning discoveries about myself that are delighting me in ways I never dreamed of. The discoveries of sensations I thought I'd lost or never known is one area of learning, others are more about who I am and what other people mean to me. This latter stuff is probably open to any ageing person but I can no longer differentiate what is the para me and what is the able bodied me - we're integrated (whoopee).

One of the greatest upside/relief was the day l realized that even in my condition l can still have children. I still dont have one but l know one day l will be a father.! ME A FATHER! Can l tell you something l will really brag! I was mentally tormented everytime boys discussed relationships. Just image a silly boy asking me. 'moses will you get married on a wheelchair?, will you have a wedding?' today am a grown up and not many things matter but then they mattered. Am strong today.

I guess I get to go fast downhill.

My absolute personal favorite. As long as I've got good gloves on :yikes:
Listening to out-of-shape AB people whine 'you're going to fast for me' even on level ground is fun too.

Well today I got free teeth whitening from the dentist office. The only thing I can think of as to why it was free is because I'm in a wheelchair and they feel sorry for me......... :D

Messing with stupid AB's. It's fun coming up with some ridiculous story to answer their stupid questions, especially if they believe it. "Do you sleep in your chair?" "Yes, I had a ramp installed on my bed"

at the gym, I do a lot of swimming... but I usually get the hot tub all to myself!!

when people see me dragging across the floor from the pool towards the hot tub, and throw my legs in, or as soon as I use the electric lift, people tend to decide they've "been in long enough", and clear out! lol

and I ALWAYS get my own lane in the pool.. even when its crowded, and people are waiting.. they don't want to get near me! which is fine!! I hate accidentally getting clocked in the face, or in the back by some stranger trying to swim a backstroke in the same lane as me!

Also there's a couple movie theaters that are GREAT!! premier night at any move, ill get a few friends to come along, and they have balcony seating for me, and like 5 other people! we all get to cut in front of everyone in line, and get a private bathroom on the second floor, and the best seats in the house!! sometimes random people will be sitting up there when I arrive, but as soon as they see my wheels, they instantly scamper away into the darkness!! LOL

its not all bad!! :^)

Nope not one upside other than a classic pair of boots never wear out or go out of fashion.
I must say, the on going learning curb of this 2nd life is enlighening & interesting to say the least.
Ok I've had two lives, that's gotta be good.

I just got back from a holiday in Europe.
Didn't have to lineup for anything, beat hours worth of lines, turned up and straight in.
Mona Lisa was the best, got taken straight up and in front of roped off area.

We joked that I should start a business so you can rent me for a holiday if queues bug ya.
