i dont have to pay for seeing a movie! And, although it's a humbling thing to go through it all, im kinda proud I can do what I can in a chair.

My shoes still wear out, but now it's usually the toes from running into stuff/people.

Pretty much impossible to lose a fight. If you kick the other guys ass, then it's "Holy crap, that guy in the wheelchair must be toughh, he beat the crap outta that other guy", If the other guy starts to get the better of you, a bunch of bustanders jump in and beat the crap outta "That A-hole who tried picking on the poor crippled guy" :boxing:

Your lap makes a handy table/dump spot. Unfortunately shit tends to fall off and roll just out or reach with frustrating regularity!

Nope, that's a downside in my book.
Atleast it is when shopping with the wife and she dumps her handbag on me (makes whip cracking sound)..
Out of the gloom a voice said unto me, "Smile and be happy, things could be worse." So I smiled and was happy and behold things did get worse.

I used to take my kids for a zoom around the rehab ward standing on the footplate of my wheelchair. Still do with with my youngest daughter when we go to the shopping mall.
Gotta love the giggles of a 3 year old.

- Never having to prove you manhood by being the 'hard man'.
- Your lap is handy for the ladies (and kids).
- No mortgage (insurance saw to that).
- Manly, muscly arms
- You've had the hardest knock life can give you, and you've survived, so you can smile and pity the moaners.

I'm surprised none of us picked up on this one !

You are so right, maybe the reason we did not pick it up is just proof of how resilient we are as survivors and the fact that we continue to strive for improvement and to recognize good or upbeat items rather than what was for many, if not all of us, a dark and painful time.

It is good to reflect on a milestone in our lives and to recognize the achievement.-

That really is a golden piece of wisdom, Heretic.

And masterful job of expanding on it, Edinburgh Colin. Perfectly said.

There are quite a lot of upsides, think all of them have been mentioned already!

A new one which I came across the other week when out in town with mates was to do with girls! out in the club, next thing i know i have a hot girl straddling me and I dont remember much more due to the copious amount of alcohol i consumed!

and like Heretic said, we've been knocked to rock bottom yet we've managed to get our lives back on track and carry on the best we can! :)

Another great upside to me is to do with work, all my colleagues end up working outside, luckily I get off with it haha, skiverrr i know but ach well! :yahoo:

I don't know if this counts but as a carer/volunteer I'm often pushing or accompanied by some1 in a wheelchair.
The best thing is when walking in town and you get past people who are handing out leaflets or about to start a hughe questionnaire. They usually leave you alone!

Everything we experience in life teaches us something and with the right perspective something good can be taken from any experience.

For me the good in paralysis starts with all I have learned in the 21 years I have been in a chair. Breaking my neck gave me a second chance to be a good father to my kids and is now giving me a third chance to help raise my wife's children. It has opened my mind to a spriritual life I never would have been able to imagine before. It helped me find the love of my life and has taught me patience and understanding and given me a perspective of the world that I never would have had before.

A plus to being paralyzed? Hmm, I no longer wear out a pair of shoes in a few months. My 8 year old Converse All-Stars look fairly new. Other than that... not much.

No special tickets or anything, I bought the cheapest 1s.. so a friend and I got to hang out with Los Tucanes de Tijuana for over an hr take pics and get autographs.. and a few months later at the second concert I've ever been to also in Mexico I got to go all the way to the bottom again and I got hella attention from the group los inquetos del norte my fav Mexican group! And I got pics and at the end the drummer gave me his drum sticks! Oh.and they passed me a j!!! Oh and I had taken my shirt off cus I had jus got my 2nd sleave tattoo done and this girl came up to me at the end and was talkn to me and she asked if is give her a kiss and I made out with her twice!
