Ministers Announce U-turn On Mobility Benefit Cut
Controversial plans to axe some benefit payments to disabled people living in care homes are being dropped.
The government had planned to axe the "mobility" part of Disability Living Allowance - worth £51-a-week and currently paid to up to 80,000 people.
Disability charity Scope had condemned the move as "callous" and said it would leave people prisoners in their homes.
Work and Pensions Minister Maria Miller confirmed in a written statement to MPs that the plan will not now go ahead.
She said the decision had been taken "having listened to the concerns raised" and the proposal would be removed from the Welfare Reform Bill.
Up to 80,000 disabled people in care homes are thought to receive the mobility component of DLA - the government had argued that local authority contracts with care homes should cover residents' mobility needs.

Well that's ONE chopping block down. How many more to come is anybody's guess.....but the more people that can be shown just what these cuts will mean I would think would make it a bit tougher....or at least make it reflect badly on them as so-called "for the people" politicians.

I am so glad this has happened.
It's vindication to those that made the effort to voice their objection and gave support to the organisations that championed the objection.
Hopefully this will encourage others to support these same organisations going forward, it's one battle won an by no means the end of the war!
Thanks for that Simon.
