I was injured friday august 13 2010. Yep FRIDAY THE THIRTEENTH. At this point i am just shy of one year four months. I don't know if i am going crazy to the over all monotony of my life or am i regressing. About three months ago I started getting shit in order. My original prescriptions and treatment plans had run out do to a change of insurance and being at the one year starter pack that my doctor from rehab had given me. I saw a urologist. I asked for a change in meds because the ditropan was really getting on my last nerves with the whole cotton mouth thing. The only thing and i mean the ONLY thing that i could taste that i could tolerate was DR. PEPPER. Still to this day i am going through a 24 case every week not to mention at least 2 other 20oz bottles when i am at school. He prescribed me a drug called sanctura. This drug was an epic failure. in one month i had 2 bad uti's and for about 6 weeks i had to deal with incontinence issues. The second stop was to pain management. I understand that norcos are narcotics. I understand that narcotics only cover up the pain by blocking pain receptors. I also know that they are an opiate and are extremely addictive. I am not addicted to them i use them only when i have pain. my intake for a 10mg/325mg tablet is 2 every 8 hours. i was usually only taking 4 and only bad days did i take 6. they thought i was a drug addict and didn't want to treat the pain that i was in. It wasn't until my mother called that they refered me to a physiatrist. This was a week ago. up until then i was still medicating with the norco. RESPONSIBLY. This doctors visit was a good one. she is continuing to try to ween me off the drug while trying to find alternate ways to deal with the pain. However, she prescribed me a drug call VOLTAREN GELL. IT is a cream that is an anti inflammatory. This worked for literally 2.5 hours. then it sent me into pain that i only remember feeling when i woke up after surgery after my accident. I tried going back to the norco's and took 2 like i always did when i was in pain to no result. i tried to keep taking 2 every 8 hours like i was told to. for 2 days i could not move. two days ago i started taking 3 at one time. this is helping. i am able to go almost 16 hours without medicating. but when the medicine wears off i am in pain. It feels like i am regressing. I keep thinking that time is supposed to make things better, but i am still at square one. i am paranoid still about getting uti's. i feel that if i keep taking norco's i will become an opiate addict and i still have no good way to feel comfortable. :head_brick_wall-1: <---DAILY. All i want to do is deal with my school work. It is the only work i have. instead i am not moving hoping that i can be comfortable for longer then five minutes. can someone give me something to send back to my doctor. I NEED TO GET THINGS SQUARED AWAY. If i am crazy tell me. then i will go see a therapist.

Tomsov-
Crazy? I couldn't say, but i can offer one small bit of advice. Carbonated drinks and sugar both increase the danger of UTIs to your bladder. Carbonated drinks of themselves are hard on the kidneys. You need to drink a lot of water. We all do.

Sugar alters the body's PH level to make it very hospitable to bacteria, so your habits are probably the biggest factor causing your UTIs. Get control of this fast because antibiotic resistance making it more and more difficult for doctors to cure our infections.

I wish I could offer something re pain meds. I do know that the mind has a big influence on pain and some members benefit from meditation and other pain management techniques.

I too take a bladder med (oxybutanin) and the dry-mouth is terrible.

Tetra is right, sugar can increase the chance of uti's. I dont take any meds for them, however I use a neosporin irigante. Its a bottle of saline with I think .5cc's of neosporin in it and you mix it all together and keep it refrigerated. Every night before after my last cath before going to bed, I put between 15-20cc's in a syringe and then push it through the cath, into my bladder. I havent had a uti since I started this.

Well they have the main ingredient of Tylenol in them so taking more than the recommended amount isn't JUST increasing the opiate/pain-killing portion but also a portion that can harm your liver. I myself have not just pain but PAIN! So I know how disruptive to the day/week that can be. I'm very fortunate that at the moment I have a Dr. who does give me enough medication & a strong enough one that I'm not having to take more than the recommended amount. But I've been given Percocet not Norco because they don't work hardly at all (I can barely even feel any effects from ones like Vicodin). If you don't like the way this/these Dr.(s) are treating you why not switch? I do hope knowing we've also been in your shoes helps bring comfort if not relief.
