Anastasiya.....a virtual window of life threw the eyes of a disabled Russian woman.

I have no idea if anyone has seen these vids or not. I stumbled on to these....just out of curiosity I was trying to see if anyone had made some vids to show how/what being disabled is like in their country. A lady with cerebral palsy & her friends made some videos of what it is like trying to get out & do anything in Russia.

I can tell you that at least in the U.S. (I only know SPECIAL education since 1990) if a student is unable to perform the physical tasks of holding/writing due to a physical problem but are cognitively "normal" they still get to attend & go to regular classes & participate in the learning process in all other ways. If a student is unable to learn/perform standard scholastic skills then they still ATTEND school til age 19-21 which they then "walk" get to do the cap & gown thing but instead of DIPLOMA they're given "certificate of attendance"....which although it isn't accepted at a 4 yr university to go on to get a degree it will allow that student (let's use Down's syndrome as an example) to go to the local 2yr community college & take some LOWER END classes.....mostly so they keep doing those things that are "normal for their age".

I don't know what it was like in the 60's or 70's for getting around in the U.S. or other countries but in the early 90's when ADA was NOT "in effect" I was still not as excluded from the sites & places to go in town as this lady in Russia is in 2010.

People with CP may be harder to understand at times because of spastic vocal muscles making speech difficult.....and it often makes them contort their faces, but I think her dilemma is one that if we were Russian would be ours as well.

What I see is a beautiful young lady who would obviously LOVE to go window shopping, go to the mall to see the latest fashions & have some ice-cream with her friends & maybe go to see a concert or the museum. ONLY thing stopping her is the lack of curb-cuts/ramps around town & on buses, a portable lift would save her mother's back, & an electric chair would make it so she could at least do things like window shop & people watch on her own. The early 1990's in the U.S. were better than the present Russia.....is Russia REALLY behind the U.S. & U.K. by 25 years?

What a neat lady! We should leave comments on youtube for her.
Look! It's a snail! It's a sloth! Able to creep short distances before lunch!

I think that would be great. I'm sure it would be nice for her knowing her message HAS gotten out. :specool:
