Me in my new chair!
The only thing I'm not loving is the cushion. It's a gigantic Jay 2 Deep Contour cushion. When I was going through ATG Rehab my DME, I mentioned how I was interested in a smaller honeycomb cushion perhaps. They said I was already down for one and it'd take weeks to change. It's already been 3 months at that point so I didn't bother. They ended up restarting my order because my rep left and they didn't tell me and they had me down for a folding not a rigid chair. I wish I'd switched the cushion then but :shrugs: Oh well.
At first I was horrified when I saw it. It's a gigantic boxy thing that literally looked bigger than my chair. I wanted to cry when the guy at ATG showed it to me when I went to pick it up. On my loaner I had a cushion at least 1/3 the size, it was a Jay but a lot more firm but still comfortable and only a inch thick. I thought I'd get a cushion like that. I was shocked they chose the J2 DC, from all my research it's for people at a high risk of pressure sores. I'm an incomplete T 10 and have been lucky enough to keep most of my abs and core strength and can transfer easily on my own and swim at least every other day and am over all very active. I'm pretty low risk for pressure sores. It really just seems like a big, boxy, gigantic overkill of a cushion.
Anyway the cushion has actually grown on me. It's 14 x 20 (apparently rare crazy dimensions) and the size has helped keep my body in the right position (my legs are long and usually not straight in chairs leading to potential pressure sores on my tail bone). It's super comfy too, since I have some sensation in my bum.
The only problem still (besides just how awkward it is) is the cover. It's too big for the cushion so it rubs against my wheels. I keep my side guards in because of the snow right now, so that helps. But it still bunches up in the front and the sides and just makes the whole thing worse. I was thinking of sewing one myself or browsing around online to see if there's a cheap alternative. I don't need anything heavy duty or waterproof, I just want something that fits the cushion like a glove to make it a bit more streamlined and fit better. I was thinking about telling ATG about it and getting a better cushion or a new cover but it's not worth the hassle. Their only location is also 2 + hours away over the mountains so it makes it even less worth it. If I can live my life without EVER having to deal with the people at ATG in Denver again I'll be thrilled!
I know it sounds petty but I waited almost 5 months for my chair. I'm really lucky the rest of it is great and I finally got it and I was able to get one in the first place, but it would be nice to be able to fix the cushion if I can!
I was wondering if anyone has the J2 Deep Contour and what their thoughts are on it. If anyone has had success with a certain fabric or design with making their own cushion covers or knows of a good website or vendor that would help too. This cover is just meh.
Thanks!
