The only thing you have to worry about is spasms and infection. Keep it clean. treat it like a pressure sore. once it is healed you are good to go. post it up when its finished.

Have them test you in an unnoticable area to see how you'll react. My arm twitched really bad when they got down near my wrist. We had to strap it down to finish....

No worries. Go for it! I've gotten tattoos below my injury level and have had no problems. I'm halfway on getting both arms sleeved and haven't felt half of it! :emoticon-0165-muscle: :D
Fear is the dumbest thing that we've ever created in our minds; its just so stupid... it stands in the way of everything and it achieves nothing.

I had a piece done like 2 weeks ago, on my forearm, Im a t7 t8. I had no problems beside being a little tight in the legs from sitting for 4 hours. I treated it like all my other tats no special care should be needed but hey everyone is different. Have fun and post a pic.

I've gotten two tattoos so far since my accident, both below my level of injury. My arm twitched for one of them, but he was still able to do a great job, and the other arm didn't give me any trouble at all. I think it's kind of hit or miss, depending on the placement and the person. Have fun and good luck!

I got a tattoo last September and I've had no problems

My back got a bit sore after sitting in the same position for a while and my arm kept twitching but maybe this is normal when getting a tattoo?

Next I'm planning getting one on my leg and after speaking to the docs they don't see any problems with it so long as the tattooist is happy to stop and give me a break when needed!:)

I've gotten 3 tatts since my injury. I called my neurologist first who gave me the o.k. As stated before that some areas may be extra excited and will jerk without your control. Just make sure your Tatt artist know your condition so he will not get pissed. On the positive side in the areas that u don't have much feelings will make you look tough to an audience that's watching.

I had tatts before my sci & now (after) it stings like a bitch. How ever, when in Thailand I cheated & had one on my thigh. U see, when they were taking a bone graft from my hip, the surgeon cut through a nerve & now it's totally numb on my thigh & I felt nothing.
However, the tattooist here dug in deep! & the man in Thailand was a proper pro n hardly touched my skin with the needle so that wouldmake a massive difference.

Stick with & post some pic's bruv.

Recently had some work done on both wrist and on my left forearm. It was all above my injury point and had no problems. Planning out a sleeve myself, so I would be interested to know how it turns out.

I'm with rollingtrouble...alcohol stopped the twitches for me too. Just doubly make sure everything is sterile.

It is not proven, but some therapists are against getting tattoos where you are paralyzed, some say it's okay. I guess it's is up to you. I finished my sleeve after my accident, I had very few light spasms. The biggest part that I did not like was the fact that I could not feel getting the tattoo.

Tatt away & just treat it the same way you would before your SCI! I was a tattoo apprentice when I got in my accident, so for anybody on here that tells you to drink before hand "DON'T DO IT"! All the alcohol does is thin your blood down a ton, so when the tattoo artist is trying to put ink into your skin your body is naturally going to bleed more which won't allow the ink to stick! If your tattoo artist is worth a damn they won't tattoo you if you've had a single drop to drink! As far as your body twitching or spasming in the area of the tattoo, that's completely normal & a tattoo artist is use to it! You can only relax your muscle so much, but when you have needles going in & out of your body it reacts as an irritant or a slight trauma to the area, so your body is naturally going to react by spasming a bit! Ask for as many breaks as you need, trust me if they are a good tattooist they don't mind especially on a big piece! They make their money by the nice work they put on everybody & rely on the satisfaction of their customers! Have a blast & I'd love to see some pictures of the final piece when it's finished!!!
All energy flows according to the whims of the great magnet!
